Careful what you wish for, you just might get it, says the old adage. The right has been quivering to see Hunter Biden taken to task for his “crimes.” Great. Let’s do just that. Give the right what they’ve been clamoring for and it will accomplish two things: 1) take the wind out of their sails. If the man’s indictment is moving forward and the wheels of justice are turning, then you can’t demand that that happen. That will cause Jim Comer, Jim Jordan and Matt Gaetz no end of sleepless nights.
And two: it will show that the rule of law applies to everybody, simply everybody. Because if Joe Biden was a communist, fascist, authoritarian dictator, like the right likes to depict him as, then how can his son have legal proceedings going against him? Hmmm? And a third, bonus result that will occur is that Donald Trump can’t cry how he’s persecuted, oh mercy me, when a president’s son is going through the same process. CBS News:
Washington — Prosecutors say they will ask a grand jury to return an indictment against Hunter Biden before Sept. 29, special counsel David Weiss informed a federal judge in Delaware on Wednesday.
The news comes after a tentative plea deal between the government and Hunter Biden’s attorneys over taxes and diversion agreement on a firearms charge fell apart this summer. The president’s son had originally been charged by two separate criminal informations with misdemeanor tax offenses and a felony firearm offense. But in open court, a federal judge questioned provisions of the tentative deal that would have allowed the president’s son to avoid prison time. After that, Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to the three charges.
Weiss, who was elevated to special counsel last month, cited the Speedy Trial Act as the impetus for the short timeline. His filing was made in response to a federal judge’s questions about the status of the firearms case and the diversion agreement after the deal with Hunter Biden’s legal team fell through in July.
“The Speedy Trial Act requires that the government obtain the return of an indictment by a grand jury by Friday, September 29, 2023, at the earliest,” Weiss wrote. “The government intends to seek the return of an indictment in this case before that date.”
In a court filing of their own on Wednesday, Hunter Biden’s lawyers said their client has continued to abide by the parameters of the firearm diversion agreement, which called for him to remain drug-free without committing additional crimes in order to see the gun charge dismissed.
Maybe Rupert Murdoch will join Donald Trump and start throwing ketchup bottles. Because it’s hard to cry out how you’re being denied justice when a recently appointed special counsel is giving you exactly what you asked for. And it’s hard to claim a White House is corrupt and controlling when a family member is going through the same process, under the rule of law, as anybody else accused of the same or similar crime.
This is a great thing to happen. I heartily approve.
The charge concerning purchasing a handgun while being a drug user, the felony, is the same charge the mother of the 6 year old who shot his teacher in Virginia faces.
Remaining drug free is a part of the requirement for bail, which the mother has broken twice…..the first time for marijuana, the second time for cocaine and marijuana.
Biden is subject to the same random testing. So how exactly is he this drug fiend yet can pass random screenings….I’d like the MAGAts to explain that one.
In any case, it will be interesting to compare the outcome and possible sentences each receive.

It’s rare but sometimes a grand jury will refuse to return a “True Bill.” I know. There’s that old saying that a prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich. But still. Back when The Sports Authority was in existence I worked in the Hunting, Fishing and Camping dept. of one near where I lived. Sold a lot of guns. Rifles, shotguns and handguns. (We didn’t carry any assault weapons) I could tell stories all day about THAT. I bring it up because I watched many a person fill out Form 4473, and even helped many quite a bit as it was their first time purchasing a firearm. Yes, even then the state (Virginia) had an instant background check – a “key manager” had to call the state for an NCIC report to ensure the individual had no felonies or pending charges against them but frankly an awful lot of the questions/answers were on the honor system. I knew the odds of someone smoking weed or doing stronger stuff yet if they said no on the form how was anyone going to find out? And, for a lot of them only sporadic use “didn’t really count” in their minds as being a drug user.
It’s a serious charge, don’t get me wrong. But a pre-trial diversion program was, as is often the case the proper result for someone who admits to having screwed up on that particular question on their 4473 and for any GOPer politician’s kid that’s what they’d demand. Same for the tax charge. People either mess up their taxes sometimes or try to fudge them some. If called out many simply admit their guilt, pay the back taxes and penalty (interest) like Hunter Biden did and that’s that. A blot on their record but no court proceeding or jail time.
THIS is all, after five f**king years the prosecutor who had years while Trump was President to go after Hunter could come up with. Frankly, I doubt he’d have even brought any charges at all but he’s young enough he knew he’d be crucified by GOPers if he didn’t charge Hunter Biden with something. Anything. Just “get” him, and in the process his dad too.
An agreement had been reached both in principle and in writing. The judge got hinky about it and it all fell apart but what’s gotten lost is there’s a provision in federal law that might make any prosecution of Hunter Biden on these charges moot – because the deal had been made. Signed and sealed and handed to the judge.
This ugliness is far from over. But the GOP goal remains. Those despicable f**kers want to drive Hunter Biden to commit suicide. THAT they know will be their magic bullet to take out Joe Biden. They saw what the death of Beau Biden did to his father and know damn well that unlike Trump Biden actually loves his family. And for any of you conservative a-holes who follow this site who want to claim “Oh no – how can you say we are like that? We’re not that cruel” I say your goddamned LIARS. Each and every one of you! I got an IRS letter recently, my dad passed away a couple of years ago and I was not sure what to declare on some of his accounts. I am paying some penalty and interest, but there is no threat of prison, felony charges.
Hunter should not be prosecuted. I wonder why the NRA is not supporting him on the gun charge. There should never be a gun charge according to the NRA. If he is prosecuted on these charges it sets a precedent that IRS charges can lead to jail time and gun charges are also equal to jail charges. hunter is being prosecuted on charges the right wing hates. they let bundy go when he was guilty of tax and gun charges. makes me sick
