After Mikey Johnson’s hurried dismissal of the House early for the summer break, he’s come right back to the same problems he was trying to avoid before. I have no pity at all for him. Remember the saying “You made your bed, now lie in it”? Well, that’s what he and all the House Republicans get to do. The delay over summer break just exacerbated the problem. From AlterNet:

In an article published in The Hill on Monday, political analyst Juan Williams noted that when the House abruptly adjourned in July, Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) early recess granted Republicans a temporary escape from the fallout over the Trump administration’s refusal to release files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. But that pause is ending, and the pressure is back, full force. And this is just one of the GOP’s challenges.

Just one of the challenges. It’s a major challenge just on its own. Democrats will not stop pushing, and the people of America will not stop pushing. Comer has released a bunch of stuff, but none of it’s new, and we already know it. So that’s just showboating and pointless. Mikey still has to worry about it, because everyone wants the *truth* and will not stop until we get it. He can only stall for so long. It’s very, very serious pressure.

A government shutdown looms less than a month away, demanding immediate solutions and likely bipartisan cooperation for funding. Republicans, despite holding majorities, have stalled on passing next year’s appropriations — even as government debt climbs to record levels. The piece noted that a deal will probably require Democratic votes, in exchange for restored funding to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, which were deeply cut by President Donald Trump’s controversial tax and budget reconciliation bill. Without action, millions face higher premiums, and voters across party lines are already siding with Democrats on this issue. Republicans across the country have faced backlash from their constituents during town halls, particularly when it comes to the president’s signature legislation.

He’s going to have a good time with that one. This is going to be serious, hard work that needs to get done before the shutdown. I certainly hope he’s talking about it today. And yes, I think it will require bipartisan work. Good luck with that, Mikey. And good luck with that, House Republicans. They’re going to get beaten over their heads trying to compromise with the Democrats. Good. They need it. Trump’s approval rates are sliding downhill. So, they need a good solution that might help bring his approval back up. Yea, good luck with that too.

Williams further observed that with Trump not on the 2026 ballot, GOP lawmakers can’t rely on MAGA momentum to shield them from political fallout anymore. As Trump pollster Tony Fabrizio warned back in July, midterms are always “a slog” for the majority party, and Republicans still bear the scars of losing 40 seats in their first midterm under Trump. “Epstein remains a problem for Republicans as Congress returns. But there are fires everywhere. And should Democrats take control in 2026, a third Trump impeachment will be on the table,” the article said.

Oh hell yes, there will be. And if we have control of Congress, it just might get by this time. The man needs to be slammed down, figuratively speaking, and face the music, because it’s about damn time he did. There’s a lot of evidence to use in the impeachment, just from the first 100+ days. I can think about tariffs, for a start. And the military in LA. And of course, there’s more, but those were the two examples I can think of.

The best part is that Mikey won’t be able to stop it if Democrats win the House. I don’t want to jinx things, but this is becoming a real possibility. Wouldn’t that be lovely? But for the moment, we have Epstein and funding the government. Should be interesting!

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thanks. Ursula

  1. Hmmmm! He can’t outrun, nor disembark from his unbalanced hamster wheel, because his maintainers refuse any other option than this myopic political construct. Reap what you sew Mr Mikey and your supportive cohorts.
