Interesting that the SignalGate controversy is coalescing now around Pete Hegseth. That’s certainly a sane and sensible read on what has happened, that this is Hegseth’s baby, the buck stops with him. But my take earlier today was that if a sacrificial lamb has to found that it will be Mike Waltz. That said, today’s hearing and activity is all centered on calling for Pete Hegseth’s head on a pike.
Here’s the state of play: A number of Democrats have come forth and demanded Hegseth’s resignation. One of them, Rep. Jason Crow, (D-CO-06) is a veteran and made a moving case for how bad this situation is.
“I deployed three times to combat in service to this nation,” Crow said, during the end of his remarks (video below). “I learned in that time in service that responsibility is core to leadership. You accept responsibility when things go wrong, you admit mistakes, you set the standard from the very top.”
“It is completely outrageous to me, completely outrageous to me the administration officials come before us today with impunity. No acceptance of responsibility. Excuse after excuse after excuse while we send our men and women down range to do incredibly difficult, incredibly dangerous things on our behalf. And yet, nobody is willing to come to us and say, ‘this was wrong, this was a breach of security and we won’t do it again.’”
“It is outrageous and it is a leadership failure and that’s why Secretary Hegseth, who undoubtedly transmitted classified sensitive operational information via this chain, must resign immediately. There can be no fixes, there can be no corrections until there is accountability, and I’m calling on the administration to move forward with accountability.”
U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), a retired Army National Guard lieutenant colonel, blasted Hegseth’s claim that he shared no classified information in the Signal chat: “Pete Hegseth is a f—— liar. This is so clearly classified info he recklessly leaked that could’ve gotten our pilots killed. He needs to resign in disgrace immediately.”
Conservative commentator Bill Kristol of The Bulwark remarked, “Prediction: Hegseth gone by Friday.”
That would be a wonderful thing if it happened. Trump has to do something. He just can’t have Kakistocracy Karoline get up and lie some more every day. And nobody cares if Jeffrey Goldberg’s wife was Hillary’s gay lover and fellow child molester at this point. The DARVO method of Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim Offense, is not working. It’s not holding water that Goldberg’s wife worked for Hillary Clinton and that this is being spun as a Deep State revenge tactic. That’s insane. All the factual evidence points to Pete Hegseth and everybody else on that call, doing something they should not have done.
I think Mike Waltz will be coerced into resigning by Friday. I stand by my original prediction. Although, in all truth, it would be smarter of Trump to convince Hegseth to resign because that would put this investigation on the back burner, or make it go away altogether, with a new Defense Secretary in charge.
This situation is going to dog Hegseth and Trump until it is resolved. And merely reiterating over and over that there was no classified information is a ploy that has flopped. Trump’s usual bravado isn’t handling this.
Trump’s got to make a decision. It will be interesting to see which one he makes. And from the body language and tone of Hegseth all day, it’s clear that he’s very nervous. And well he should be.

They should just get rid of the most stupid person in on the discussion.
OOOh. That’s quite hard isn’t it?
The most stupid, out of all these?
Might as well go for SecDrunk then.

Trumpler only fires competent people. You know, the ones way smarter than he is who might put him in the shade. None of his clown cabinet are smarter than Donald, or if they are they hide it very well, so I suspect their job security’s pretty tight. That said, if Trump comes to believe that any or all of them are a threat to his appalling presidency, the presidency that’s keeping him out of prison, the yes, some heads will roll. He’ll just replace them with others of the same species, sadly.
Trump has survived so many scandals, that he thinks he can ride this one out, too. My guess is that no one gets fired unless Democrats win the two Congressional seats (one vacated by Mike Waltz) in Florida’s April 1 special election. Even then, Trump will act only when panicked GOP members of Congress demand that he “do something” to quell voters’ anger.
Seeing Hegseth thrown under the bus would be a wonderful thing, but they will just find someone worse to replace him.
If we get really, Hegseth,,Mikey,,and Tulsli will be gone. Not kikely but a woman cab dream.
ITS FRIDAY he is not gone… DONT post these pre event please.
