The sound of gnashing teeth and and remote control units sailing across the room that you hear in the background has been occasioned by a frustrated GOP and right-wing media. Damn! They had a great spin going! And then lo and behold what should happen? Out of the blue, the Secretary of State of Maine comes out of the shadows and announces that Donald Trump will not be on the ballot for the Maine primary.
And this is while there was such a terrific spin going on about a non-existent “win” for Donald Trump. Trump, the denizens of right-wing media would have you know, was baaaack! Oh yes, he was back on the Colorado ballot, ain’t it grand? Here’s none other than Bobo celebrating. And the tweeter that responded to her explains the issue as well as anybody.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I love it!! And Bobo wasn’t having the best day to begin with, but she thought she could salvage it by getting out there and doing a rah rah dance for Trump’s victory — there is no victory.
So while all this was being debated on Twitter, and disinformation was flying through the air like a swarm of bats, BOOM! Another bombshell, this one from the northernmost end of our great land. “Maine Joins Colorado In Finding Trump Ineligible For Primary Ballot” reads the New York Times headline:
In a written decision, the official, Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, said that Mr. Trump did not qualify for the ballot because of his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, agreeing with a handful of citizens who claimed that he had incited an insurrection and was thus barred from seeking the presidency again under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.
“I am mindful that no secretary of state has ever deprived a presidential candidate of ballot access based on Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. I am also mindful, however, that no presidential candidate has ever before engaged in insurrection.,” Ms. Bellows, a Democrat, wrote. […]
Maine’s decision adds urgency to calls for the U.S. Supreme Court to insert itself into the politically explosive dispute over his eligibility. Just weeks before the first votes in the 2024 election are set to be cast, lawyers on both sides are asking the nation’s top court to provide guidance on an obscure constitutional amendment enacted after the Civil War, which is at the heart of the effort to block Mr. Trump from making a third White House run.
Let’s see what Oregon does now. The same issue is up for a vote there. Minnesota and Michigan have decided that Trump can stay on their ballots. Michigan’s Supreme Court concluded on Wednesday that an appeals court had properly decided that political parties should be able to determine which candidates are eligible to run for president. California also needs to weigh in.
But for the moment, Maine and Colorado do not have Trump on the ballot, except Colorado has his name on there and people like Lauren Boebert are digging their political graves even deeper by pretending that that means something. I would say it’s unbelievable, but no, it’s the new normal. The GOP is going to lie its ass off in the hopes that they manage to convince enough people to make a difference.
You may not have been on the Titanic when it went down, but survivors have testified that it was an incredible experience. So is watching the disintegration of one of the two major political parties in this nation. And I do not say that lightly. Democracy can only thrive when there are two functioning and healthy political parties. I am hopeful that the GOP will finish collapsing and something arises out of the ruins. We can’t continue like this indefinitely. Right now politics is a free for all. How long can that last as a system of government?

The Titanic analogy is a good one. Lots of people didn’t want to believe the ship was sinking, and to avoid panic, some people encouraged the illusion.
Play on band, play on.
You’re exactly right. Titanic has always fascinated me and I read a lot about it after the remake came out in the 90’s. I liked the first Titanic in the 50’s a lot as well. A lot of people denied that the ship was sinking because they couldn’t believe that something that big could sink. Well, they found out.
And political parties have fallen before. The Whigs preceded the Republicans. That’s fact. I don’t know what the new conservative party will be called, but history will record it was Whig, Republican then Something Else. The GOP can’t keep going this way.
“Obscure” constitutional amendment? What tommyrot. They are all equally UN-obscure.
There is no obscure amendment. They’re all very obvious and very clear.
Somewhere Susan Collins is locked in a bathroom wringing her hands raw with her very very very deep concern. No worries Susan. Bret will assure you his fascist buddies will hear the case and rule in the rapist favor. Of course Harlan will need to fly justice Thomas back from his private island in time to cast a vote!
This is just too comical. And in the last four days of the year. Oh, man. 2024 is going to be something.
This is an amazingly well done article. Very entertaining.
Thanks. 😊 Love it! ❤️
Like sands in the hourglass
these our the days of our lives…
As many people will mention
momentum has a power all its own
I truly believe people’s perceptions will change,
someone mentioned Trumps great economy,
the retort,,We couldn’t even get toilet paper
perceptions change
It’s hard to keep it real now because reality has left the building.
which is why it’s so fun to counter-traitor each and everyone with
a more clever kind of their own medicine.
Your “… BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I love it!!…” … “… It’s the new normal…” and it’s titanically sinking their version of normality. So, please “… Play on band, play on….” as Concinnity has so astutely stated.
