Just more evidence that the GOP is the island of broken toys. The latest Republican to hit the media spotlight is a city council member in Cranston, Rhode Island, Matthew Reilly. Reilly was found passed out in his car with a crack pipe in his hands and fentanyl in the car. He was arrested and then asked to resign his position the same day.

Where is Paul Ryan these days? He’s always one to lecture on how the good of western civilization rests upon the shoulders of the Republican party and its staunch values. I would like to hear him explain either this fellow, or George Santos, or Rudy Giuliani or any of them these days.

He’s a Republican. The instinct of his fellow GOPers will be to rally around him and piously talk about “innocent until proven guilty in a court of law” and how his “privacy” should be respected. How people shouldn’t speculate. And of course claim they have NOT seen the tape of the cops BUSTING this guy. Hey, the GOP is furiously providing cover for George Santos so it would come as no surprise to me if the protect Santos mentality has taken firm hold at the state and local level.
