Why is it that Republicans are blaming Democrats for everything that goes wrong, whether or not it has anything to do with politics? Wildfires are started by Democrats, but only in blue states. Flooding is the fault of Democrats, but only in blue states. Charlie Kirk was “assassinated” because of the far left. And Democrats are going to cause a government shutdown.
Yes, the first two are extreme, and Kirk was killed by a young man with *no* political leanings. However, the last one requires a closer examination. Democrats are going to shut down the government. Now, yes, they might, but what’s conveniently missing is *why*. You note they don’t provide any background on this, because it would go against the Big Ugly Bill. The Democrats want to fix the cuts to Medicare and Obamacare. That’s pretty big. But the Republicans are mute about it.
Don’t forget the killings part. JD opened his mouth again and lied, lied, lied. That’s what we’re looking at for this column. Other pieces have been posted about JD, but this one is big in a different way. There are flat-out untruths. We are “listening”, since here is text, to an MSNBC panel talking about it, and JD Vance. Inflammatory comments Vice President J.D. Vance made within hours after a shooting at a Dallas ICE facility were raked over the coals by an MSNBC panel. According to Vance, “But if you look at the political violence in our country over the last couple of months, the last couple of years, it is not a both sides problem. It is primarily on one side of the political aisle. So if we are going to truly go after the political violence in this country, we need the Democratic leadership in Washington, D.C. to look in the mirror.”
What? *All* the violence is from Democrats? Get real. That’s false. It might be something to MAGA, but that’s about all. Generally, everyone else has a brain and can think. All of you folks do, except for one, a blatantly obvious troll trying to incite something and getting shut down.
That led a fuming MSNBC host Joe Scarborough to fire back, “Yeah, another lie. I really don’t understand why, at times like these, the vice president feels like he needs to go out and lie about things that are obviously false. I always talk about the need to support law enforcement. We talked yesterday about the attacks against ICE in July, two times in July of this year, talked about how heinous the shooting was yesterday, three migrants that were shot, by the way.
JD enjoys lying. It shows how he is supporting the Republicans. It shows he is a sycophant to Trump. It makes Trump happy because if he lies about something and gets caught, he can say the information came from JD. Of course, we haven’t seen that (yet) from Trump, but it’s possible. He generally lies every chance he gets, and somehow the blame is put on Democrats, with a side note of other countries regarding tariffs. The way things are at this point, it’s almost a full-time job to rebut either one of them. With Trump heading down Dementia Road, it’s a challenge.
“Now, listen, if there was a Democrat that was blaming the Republican Party for these killings, we would be very critical of them,” he added. Pointing to the silence from Republicans when Minnesota House of Representatives Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark and their dog were killed in their home by a Donald Trump supporter, Scarborough added, “The question is this: where was JD Vance after that happened? Did he go around making speeches nonstop? Where were right-wing media outlets when all of these things happened?” Co-host Willie Geist chimed in and called Vance’s actions “Grossly irresponsible.”
Exactly. Where were they? Charlie Kirk got all the hoorah, and Vance said he was killed by a Democrat when it was nothing of the sort. But Minnesota’s democratic lawmakers were killed or injured? Crickets. Nothing was said beyond what people managed to get to the press or post online. Republicans were silent. How much of the US was outraged by their actions, except MAGA and a number of other Republicans? (Looking at you, Congress.) How could they do this and then sleep at night?
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. At some point the general population’s going to wake up and realize we are at war. The so called president has openly declared and called for it as has the VP DOJ DHS and the FBI. There are now more ICE agents than the combined number of agents in those agencies. They now have no age requirements, strict training etc., before being covered up, covered with no accountability for anything they do or the way they do it. Then they are handed a military killing machine. Of course crickets on immigrants, democrats, and other identified groups being killed. They celebrate when an enemy is destroyed. That’s now our country. The past has evaporated and now the grand illusion is being fed to the masses. Those of us not shot at the mall, or whisked into a van by armed masked men, and sent around the country to blur the trail, finally ending in one of trump’s camps. I wonder which country?
Perhaps it’s time to remind non-Catholics that ‘Sins Of Omission’ are treated the same as ‘Sins Of Commission.’
Perhaps it’s also time to remind SOME Catholics (such as Vance) of that piece of dogma.
