It’s late and I’m worn out but just read something that gave me warm fuzzies and a shot of adrenaline. The Congress Critter Margarine Tailhole Gangrene, er Marjorie Taylor Greene (aka MTG) has floated the idea of running for Senate. Democrat John Ossoff is up for re-election next year and it always figured to be a tough fight. A winnable fight I should add since he seems to be liked by Georgia voters. Still, he’s a Democrat in a statewide office in a red state. So far there are four names being bandied about, with as I’ve said MTG’s being one. Recent polling suggests she’d best stick to where she is. Out of four possible GOP candidates MTG sits in fourth place. Last.
Inexplicably voters in her NW Georgia District can’t seem to find a Republican to primary her so she’s safe.  However the fact is. safe in her House seat or not Marjie is having a bad week. Earlier I wrote about how Florida’s Jared Moskowitz utterly trashed her precious House DOGE Caucus. Useless from the start he said and now just plain dead. Ok, that had to sting some but she’s good at tossing out baseless attacks and likely thought ‘no big deal.’ Alas, she’s got dreams of moving up in the world. Hence her indicating she liked the sound of “Senator Marjorie Taylor Greene.” (Take a minute to clean the puke off your screen)
Well, we’ve got polling now and as I said she’s in fourth place among four candidates that were polled regarding a match-up with Ossoff. At least according to an article by Raw Story. It’s a short read and using data from an Atlanta Journal Constitution poll ranks the candidates who seem to be the GOP nominee. As I said when it comes to MTG John Ossoff beats her like a drum. First though let’s look at REAL, credible politicians being talked about. At least two of them are of Senatorial timber. However much I (and most reading this) disagree with their political beliefs they are unquestionably up to the job.
Current Governor Brian Kemp is popular and at this point has the best chance of unseating Ossoff according to the poll. He incurred some MAGA wrath over 2020 but I said all along he was capable of weathering it and it would pass. I’ve also suggested he’s had his eye on a 2028 Presidential run. I haven’t change on that. The question he faces is whether a Senate run, especially one he’s not guaranteed to win and decisively so is a wise thing to do if he has his eyes on 2028. So far he’s not committing to anything. I think if Trump continues tanking our country there’s not a chance in hell he can win the nomination in 2028. He’s already got his Get Out Of Jail Free Card after all. So after PAINTING HIS FACE ORANGE Trump will sling b.s. about how great he’s been and it’s time to relax and let someone else take over.
Still, Kemp faces as tough a time reading the Trump tea leaves as anyone else but for this discussion he’s the Georgia GOP’s best chance at beating Ossoff. The linked article explains why Kemp is almost tied with Ossoff at this point. From there it breaks down like this:
Noting Kemp has been close-mouthed about a possible bid that would raise his national profile if he decided to turn around and run for president in 2028, the Journal-Constitution reported that Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger weighs in as a possible loser to Ossoff at 48-39 percent and that Insurance Commissioner John King trails 51-38.
Raffensberger became the face of the ‘Georgia ran a free and fair election and while it was close Trump lost’ news story. That news included the infamous ‘find me the votes’ call from Trump and Raffensberger refused to budge. He wasn’t about to risk jail for the likes of Trump! That helps with many Independents but hurts with Republicans and strongly conservative leaning Indies. Still, given a choice between a Democrat and a Republican I think he’d do better than current polling shows. But still lose. The effects of Trump trashing him are a whole different subject that would take at least one article to cover. As for John King I don’t know anything about him. Perhaps readers from Georgia can enlighten us.
That brings us to the Jewish Space Laster gal who probably feels like she’s getting zapped by them this week. As I’ve said MTG comes in dead last. Worse 10% of Republicans said they’d (horrors!) do the unthinkable and vote for Ossoff, a DEMOCRAT instead of Machine Gun Marjie:
As for Taylor Greene, the new poll states, “Ossoff’s strongest advantage comes against Greene, the polarizing Trump ally and ultraconservative congresswoman from northwest Georgia. In that hypothetical matchup, Ossoff leads 54-37, thanks to support from 60% of independents and nearly 10% of Trump voters.”
That last part about ten percent of Trump voters is what gives me something I seldom feel anymore. Hope. Sure, there’s time for them to slink back home to their Trump Bear who no doubt would campaign for MTG. Still, that not just a handful but ten freaking percent of Georgia Republicans who voted for Trump would stick with Ossoff and reject Greene tells me some of them have a few rational cells in their brains that are trying to grow. For tonight that’s enough. I DO regret using the title pic of the tear running down for an earlier article about MTG.
