This isn’t a deep dive into the GOP primary field – just a two-stop tour – but you don’t have to dig down or travel far to find something anomalous about GOP candidates. In fact, some days I wonder if there’s a regular person among them because I keep coming across incidental info of the double-take variety.

First stop: Colorado
When I think of ludicrous, Lauren Boebert – aka the Bobo clown and Bobblehead among other soubriquets – comes readily to mind. Ursula posted a piece about her yesterday, which contained this classic description:

Titmouse: noun. “1) A small bird, 2) unless you’re talking about politics, then it refers to a shrill stupid woman with a chest the size of her IQ.”

At their primary debate last Thursday, Boebert accused her opponent, Don Coram, of selling “hot hemp.” What is “hot hemp”? I was momentarily baffled until she followed it up with the “illegal drug dealer” line. While it was an odd accusation since cannabis in Colorado has been legal for both medical and recreational use for ten years, odd is absolutely normal for Boebert.

A little more skimming of the local news also uncovered yet another monumental Boebert misunderstanding of how government works. It appears she believes that by co-sponsoring bipartisan legislation to regulate hemp farming, Senator Coram had abused his public position.

I stopped at that point. Trying to unravel any more of what is laughably referred to as Boebert’s thinking, could lead to serious discombobulation.

But there was a moment of lightheartedness. Sometimes it’s the small things that raise a chuckle, like this excerpt from Don Coram’s campaign website.

Don Coram has two siblings: sister, Darla, and brother, Dwayne. He and his wife, Dianna from Delta, have one son, Dee.

I’m not sure if this rates as a trend or family legacy.

Next up, Vermont.
I chanced across this Raw Story item under the heading Republican arrested for DUI won’t say where he was before crashing car at 3:45 am. The subject of the story was Kevin Divney, a financial analyst and GOP candidate and yes he was deflecting press questions about where he had been before he was arrested. I assumed it was a personal thing and I wasn’t interested in his private life, just in his politics.

“A political newcomer, Divney declared his candidacy under the wire on Thursday, but has the backing of Vermont GOP Chair Paul Dame,” the local news site VT Digger reported.

I checked out his Twitter page. His tweets covered two topics: his tv appearances and Maria Bartiromo, what she did, what she said, photos, and so on. I bookmarked it so I could come back to it while I was working on this article. I revisited the page a couple of minutes ago and… hey, it no longer exists! Why did he shut it down just hours after his DUI arrest went public? Hmm, maybe his private life is more interesting than I thought.

I went back to the Raw Story article which informed me that

Divney is facing “perennial candidate” H. Brooke Paige for the GOP nomination for treasurer. Paige is also the only Republican running for attorney general.

Say what? I didn’t know a candidate could run for more than one position in the same election. I checked a couple of political sources for Vermont. Turns out that H. Brooke Paige isn’t running for two seats; in an acute case of serial candidacy, he’s running for four!

And looky here – Kevin Divney has not only shut down his Twitter account, he’s also dropped out of the race for treasurer. This is looking like he may be in some serious trouble. Now I really am curious about where he was before his accident.

Since the Vermont filing deadline for parties – May 26 – has passed, this now means that H Brooke Paige is the sole GOP candidate for all four positions. This may be the closest this frequent candidate has ever come to being on the ballot for the general and he’s achieved it four times in one election! I’m not wishing you luck for November, Mr Paige, but well done for getting as far as you have!

I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for more of the same – and news about whatever Mr Divney’s been up to. If you come across something, please mention it in the comments or tweet me @Mopshell.
