Friends, We Need Your Help and I Personally Need Your Help

This is a difficult piece for me to write and I’m not going to snow you on anything. I’m going to tell you the plain truth as I always have. The truth is that I write this with tears in my eyes and from the vantage point of being in a very deep depression. And yes, the depression started the last two months before the election of 2024, brought on by worry and stress, and then it worsened post-election and it’s been coming in waves ever since then.

We have lost a lot of traffic — not that that is unique unto us. Everybody has lost traffic. Right now MSNBC is thinking of rebranding themselves as MS Now. Why they think that’s going to matter, I do not know. I think they suffer from the same issue we do here, which is depression in the electorate. But their desperation to turn their situation around I do understand. That I get loud and clear.

Let me bottom line this for you: Unless some of you, at least, can dig deep into your pockets and find a way to help us out financially, I do not know how long we can keep the blog on the internet. Yes, we do have some money stashed away for rainy days but what’s happened since last November has been one continuous deluge. I keep having to tap into the company’s saved money and there just isn’t that much more left.

I am in the process of talking to vendors that we deal with and seeing if we can reduce our overhead in some fashion. There may be some wiggle room there that I have not yet discovered.

Additionally, I could use a part-time job myself, if anybody in this community is hiring or knows of anybody who is hiring. It would have to be remote work. I am fundamentally disabled from compressed back discs and getting around is difficult for me. So I’m not going to be going out there in the world and looking for a “job” as you and I understand that term, going to an office, etc. But I type fast, have sound computer skills, phone skills, all that.

Additionally, as bad as things are, Trump is in the process of making them worse. He’s messing with Medicaid in my state and in all states. I just got the reapplication papers and barring something amazing happening, I will lose the one benefit that I have from Medicaid, which is my medical insurance with Medicare being picked up. I got in just under the wire a few years back and in a normal world, where the poor, disabled, and elderly were not the targets of a vicious and uncaring government, I would not be dealing with this situation. But things are the way they are and so my overhead will be going up soon — as income keeps coming in at a substandard rate.

I love this blog and this community. I am honored to work with the people that I work with here. The other writers and people who contribute regularly, and of course, our beloved readers, are amongst the most intelligent and devoted and hard working people it’s ever been my good fortune to know, or my privilege to work with. We do a great deal with very little. We are not making lots of money here but we all do it as a labor of love.

I am determined that we will survive, but we can’t do it alone. We have gotten by with a little help from our friends in the past and I need to come to you once more and ask for your kind generosity.

The darkness that this country is in cannot endure forever. We are a country divided and we are a country fighting back. If we can just stay the course through a few more difficult months, I feel that the situation will right itself and we will be back to where we were.
