I just got an email from our fellow Zoomer Cherl and she informed me that there is a piece on the rec list at Daily Kos about how ill Black Max is. I immediately sent him an email, hoping that if he doesn’t get it, maybe his wife, Sissy, will.
Apparently he’s got issues with multiple organ failure.
He never spoke of health issues. Whenever we would talk on the phone or email he would tell me about how busy he was with work and a new video game he was developing. I know nothing about game development, that’s a different world entirely from the one in which I dwell, but I thought it was fascinating to hear how those things come into being.
But health he never mentioned, so he must have preferred to keep those issues to himself.
I’ll see if I can find a better way to get in touch with Sissy and keep up on the status of Mike’s health.
Health is the biggy. You have that, you have everything. We forget that in this life, as driven as we all are to see money and stature as the indicators of success, that truly, if you have your health and people who love you and if you do things you enjoy doing, that is major success. You can’t put a price tag on any of that.

I only knew him through PZ and I remember seeing his name at DK. I liked that his pieces were very thorough and he always had his facts in row. I do miss his voice here.
He would be welcome to come back, but it sounds like that might not be possible. Wow. Life sure can change on a dime.
I’ll hope for the best. If all I can do is send out good karma then that’s what I’ll be doing.
I am completely devastated. He is one of my most favorite people on Kos, ever.
I have to believe that his health problems are not recent and he simply never spoke of them. We spoke around March or April of last year. He never mentioned health issues, but how could he be so sick now if he didn’t have the issues then?
If I find out more I’ll let you know.

Thank you, Ursula. I went to the mothership where there is a long thread of Kossacks who know him, full of love and support. Sending loving thoughts his way, I live in NC also but don’t know him personally. i think you’re right that this couldn’t be something that just developed overnight.

A person’s health is so very precious … As we get older, the discomforts of joints and muscle limits are facts most of us will endure … some of us will face more arduous challenges and to them, and Mike, I send my best wishes for recovery and loss of any pain or discomforts ..
Mike has been a voice of reason in the storm of ignorance in the White House … Trump and his stinking rotten swamp of YES people kissing his behind, along with corrupt Republicans is an on-going battle we must win for the sake of our country and Democracy …
