The process of casting a state’s electoral votes is pretty straight forward, the State Electors as chosen by the political party that has won the popular vote in a Presidential election, as certified by that state’s Secretary of State and Governor, are to gather in the State Capitol on the December 14th following the election to cast their votes and make the will of the voters in their state official.
In Georgia on December 20, 2020, Democrats, having won the popular vote in that state…as certified by Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and, to Trump’s horror and disgust, Governor Brian Kemp, did just that and cast their votes for Joe Biden.
Georgia Republican electors, some of whom were replacements subbing for chosen electors who weren’t down with sedition, also that night gathered to sign “certifications”, since they had no votes, attesting to their belief, sans a shred of evidence, that Donald Trump had actually won the election.
They were instructed to do so “complete secrecy” in an email sent by The Trump campaign and obtained by the Washington Post.
“A staffer for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign instructed Republicans planning to cast electoral college votes for Trump in Georgia despite Joe Biden’s victory to operate in “complete secrecy,” an email obtained by The Washington Post shows.
“I must ask for your complete discretion in this process,” wrote Robert Sinners, the campaign’s election operations director for Georgia, the day before the 16 Republicans gathered at the Georgia Capitol to sign certificates declaring themselves duly elected. “Your duties are imperative to ensure the end result — a win in Georgia for President Trump — but will be hampered unless we have complete secrecy and discretion.”
The Dec. 13, 2020, email went on to instruct the electors to tell security guards at the building that they had an appointment with one of two state senators. “Please, at no point should you mention anything to do with Presidential Electors or speak to the media,” Sinners continued in bold.“
And this process was repeating itself in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Arizona, Michigan, indeed in all the states won by Joe Biden and Trump contested, and lost, in court.
In drumpf’s fever dreams Vice President Pence would throw out the votes of the legitimate electors on Jan. 6, 2021 and install him as President for another term.
And, barring that unhappy outcome, the fraudulent vote, in the GOP’s circuitous logic, could be used in court challenges to protect Trumps “rights”, of which he had exactly none, to the electoral votes.
Georgia Republican Party Chairman David Shafer, an elector himself and a wrangler of the other fraudulent votes had this to say:
“…the goal had been to ensure Trump electors were in place should a court overturn Biden’s win in response to a pending case. “In order for that lawsuit to remain viable, we were required to hold this meeting to preserve [Trump’s] rights,”
Hey, Dave, if Trump had these votes by right, why all the cloak and dagger?
“Norm Eisen, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and the counsel to House Democrats for Trump’s first impeachment, said the email could suggest those involved knew their actions could be problematic. “If there was nothing wrong with it, why go through such extraordinary lengths to hide what you’re doing?” he asked.“
Secrecy to hide the fact that they were knowingly violating the laws *and* the Constitution.
