The midterm convention is getting more warnings by the day. We now have a former Republican House member warning off everyone considering attending, especially for $25,000 *each*. That’s quite a chunk of change for a 2-day convention. It doesn’t include anything else. These days, hotel prices are likely to be higher because of what they need and the staff required to do it (who have been terrorized by ICE). Then food, gas, everything Trump is refusing to acknowledge that Americans are suffering under him. Yes, this is more about the “convention,” but additional pertinent things have come out.
Trump’s polling in the low 30s. Just the sort of thing that any Republican would (not) want to be associated with. He’d probably charge to have a picture taken with him. This is where we make a bad joke about his smell. For a bonus, the possibility of highlighting Ken Paxton, which won’t do any good. Kenny has been failing himself downward. He’s definitely digging himself into a hole. The deeper he digs, the better. The affairs and 18 houses are not doing him any good. But he was impeached like Trump, so they are likely happy to be buddies.
Paxton is another reason to stay away. Since he was Trump’s pick, the Toxicity of Trump is attached to him. Almost all Republicans have noticed this and are trying to run their own campaigns without Trump’s “help”. It’s looking more and more likely that Republicans are going to have a rough time at midterms. We’ve already seen red states saying they’re going to vote across the aisle because “their” candidate is horrible. A Paxton highlight is not worth the price of admission.
Respect to Raw Story:
During an appearance on MS NOW, former Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-VA) was amazed that any lawmaker who is on the ballot in November would take valuable time away from campaigning to attend what is being called President Donald Trump’s “Trump-a-palooza.” Comstock’s advice? “Do. Not. Go.” “Boy, I can’t think of a better gift to the Democrats to take Donald Trump, who’s in the low-to-mid 30s, and be dragging people off the campaign trail,” she mused. “I mean, this is insane to be taking them off the campaign trail,” she exclaimed.
It’s beyond insane, if such a thing is possible. They have seats to defend. They have to talk to voters, listen to what they have to say, and encourage them to vote. Yes, Democrats need to do that too, but they’re not the ones under so much pressure. And they aren’t trying to have a convention, too. It would be better if they called it a Trump Rally. It always turns into that. Remember Trump’s failed birthday celebration for the country? It turned into a Trump rally. And that’s what will happen.
The Americans suffering under Trump’s debacles don’t want a Trump Rally. They want prices down in the grocery store. They want gas to be less expensive. They want to be able to live, not sweat planning out down to the penny. The vast majority don’t care about Trump. They care about surviving.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love.
