Say what? Republicans aren’t doing well in Florida, not at all. Events seem to be tilting toward Democrats and not so much toward the red people. Some may have a real fight on their hands. Florida made a mistake, a very telling mistake, and it’s actually turned out to be oddly more positive for Democrats. It also goes to show how much Trump is disliked, and most Republicans, or perhaps the Republican Party.
Republicans are in trouble for a lot of reasons, the main one being the Iran War. Trump has had *multiple* places to end it, but his ego is more important than stopping it. Candidates are scrubbing any mention of Trump from webpages and such because he seems to break things, not make them. He put support behind the actions of Ron DeSantis, which, it turns out, were rushed and not the best idea for Republican support.

Florida Republicans’ last-minute redistricting push has “backfired” on President Donald Trump and his party as Democrats grow “outwardly optimistic” about the state. Speaking in an episode of his show, “Scott MacFarlane Reports,” MeidasTouch Capitol Hill correspondent Scott MacFarlane pointed to “a series of new race forecasts” that have shifted congressional, gubernatorial, and Senate races “in the direction of Democrats,” including several in Florida. The state “has not seen Democratic growth, not much of it, at least, in Trump’s two terms,” MacFarlane pointed out.
“There’s a word we need to get used to hearing,” MacFarlane said. “Dummymandering. When gerrymandering goes wrong. When gerrymandering goes south, you can call it dummymandering.” MacFarlane noted that Florida under Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) “gerrymandered in the 11th hour.” “Now, if they’re not done right, they can make some Republicans more vulnerable by diluting Republican votes,” he said. “And it leaves Republicans vulnerable if there’s going to be a wave election.”
Gosh, could this be a wave election? It’s certainly shaping up to be one. Florida looking potentially blue here and there is a big deal. And remember, Talarico is holding his own in Texas. Paxton continues to go downhill, all of which is his own doing, except for being picked by Trump. Paxton’s problems keep coming out.
But we were discussing Florida, because it’s guaranteed Paxton will screw up again. So why *is* Florida getting some blue? How about the disaster that’s Alligator Alcatraz, which they must have gotten some sort of clearance to have it opened again because it had a *lot* of trouble. Here’s one reason for it: The thing has cost over a *billion* bucks at this point, more like 1.6b, and as usual, for anything like this, it came from Florida’s taxes. No wonder voters are pissed.
This is not a surprise. Your writer is pissed about the huge detention center, for holding the largest number of people in the US, being built in our state. Yes, that’s different, but the same sort of thinking applies. Senator Ossoff’s Republican competitor is not doing well. We have to consider state and local elections, because that’s where the wave started, and there will be a good, solid base to help Democrats cross the line first. And they happen to be pulling money from him, too. There seem to be races in other states that worry Republicans.
And back to our original topic, again. Florida pushed through a (sloppy) last-ditch attempt to make the districts more favorable for Republicans, and it was dummymandering. Local races have flipped blue, around 40 of them. That says something. There is a backlash against Republicans because of what they did and what Trump didn’t do. Sorry not sorry. We will win.
