End Of Round 1: Trump Resistance 2, McCarthy Morons 0

Look, personally I like to take Kevin McCarthy at his word, he shuts up quicker that way. So fine, the only reason that he drove Liz Cheney out of GOP leadership was that she kept wanting to dwell on the 2020 loss, and the January 6th riot, and McCarthy needs a partner to show a unified GOP voice looking forward to 2022 and beyond. Enter Elise Stefanik, human chameleon. So, how’s that go?

McCarthy is so desperate to get the media’s eye and mind off of Trump and 2020 that he actually came out of an Oval Office meeting with Biden to say that as far as he was concerned, all questions of the 2020 election were now dead and moot, after all, he had just spent time with the President in the Oval Office.

Nice try, little man. Last night His Lowness released a public facing statement on his website, once again claiming the theft of the November election, and calling it the crime of the century! And his new forward thinking wingnut?

Right on target, if the target was on Kevin McCarthy’s back. She threw rose petals at Trump’s feet, defended the Big Lie, and multiple times on multiple networks said things like President Trump is still the most critical part of the Republican party, and moving forward, the GOP is firmly unified behind President Trump! There’s just one small problem there, you Empire State Twit! Trump is no longer the President! And every time raging nitwits like you spout that shit off, you take 5 years off of McCarthy’s life, reminding everybody out there that there is still a sizeable lunatic fringe firmly on control of the caucus.

The thing that I can’t believe is that Kevin McCarthy could possibly have expected anything different. After all, Stefanik wasn’t his  choice, it’s not like he spent the last two weeks sporting a Stefanik Rocks t-shirt around the Capitol. Trump engineered Stefanik into that leadership post, and he did it for one reason only, she talks about him daily, or he’ll oust her too, and keep trying.

That’s why I have the score at 2-0 already. Liz Cheney came out like an unleashed tiger, but brutally on message, even going on FUX News for the 2nd time in 3 days to preach the bad news to the choir. Adam Kinzinger dropped his two cents worth in every once in a while, and some of the faces of the Trump Resistance are starting to make themselves known and heard. Meanwhile, McCarthy’s House messaging maven is stuck in a loop playing Trump’s Greatest Shits.

This is like liquid gold for the Democrats, if for no other reason than this. As long as this GOP House civil war keeps playing out in public, it makes it impossible for Mitch McConnell to recruit any kind of quality candidates to run for open Senate seats in 2022. Nobody with any wish for a political future is going to want to jump into that kind of a mosh pit, they’ll sit this one out. This means that McConnell ends up with far inferior or Trumpier candidates than he wants, which is always dangerous in a state wide election, where urban and suburban voters can be motivated to show up for a cause.

The funny thing is, I don’t see any reason for there to be a quick end in sight. Trump owns the GOP, at least the House caucus, and he’s going to milk it until the donations stop coming. And for Cheney, Kinzinger and the others, there’s no real reason for them to quit. The airtime is free so far, and they’re fighting for the soul of the party that they truly believe in. One thing is for certain. The longer this goes on, the worse it gets for the GOP, including a shutting off of corporate donations during the fighting. Don’t touch that dial.
