Okay, I’m dealing with insomnia, so figured I’d just keep writing. But this is all.

Time for one of my favorite words – this is “interesting”. There are two different articles about this, so let’s try to blend them and hope it works. Pete has gone on a firing binge of some of his top military people while we’re at war. This was certainly not the brightest thing to do. But someone came up with an interesting theory of why, and it’s a good one. My esteem to Raw Story: here and here.

As President Donald Trump’s war in Iran goes further off the rails, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth carried out a “purge” of US Army leadership on Thursday, ousting its most senior general and two other top officers and reportedly leaving many senior officials stunned.

The Pentagon has not provided an official explanation for the sudden firing of Army Chief of Staff General Randy George, who was jettisoned along with another four-star general, David Hodne, and Major General William Green Jr., the top Army chaplain.

But speculation was rampant Thursday as the White House continued to insist its war on Iran is going as planned. Tom Nichols wrote for The Atlantic on Thursday that those dismissed were likely casualties of “Hegseth’s vindictive struggles with the Army… as he struggles in a job for which he remains singularly unqualified.”

Gee, ya THINK? He’s overwhelmingly unqualified. He’s trying to force his vision on the military with no thought for how workable it is. He thinks the military is too soft. He thinks his repulsive religion is the only right one. He thinks he knows what he’s doing when he most certainly does not. He won’t listen to his experienced people if it interferes with his worldview. He thinks we are winning when we are not.

The New York Post reported a startling possible explanation for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s spree of firing top Pentagon leadership this week: he’s trying to get his potential replacements fired before he himself can be. Specifically, said the report.

Hegseth fears the possibility President Donald Trump could replace him with Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll — and has accordingly been firing people around Driscoll, with possible designs on removing Driscoll himself. Hegseth on Thursday demanded the resignation of Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George — Driscoll’s top aide — in the middle of the Iran war for reasons that were not publicly stated.

Gee, is Hegseth overthinking or what? He might actually be starting to realize he’s in a mess that was mostly of his own making. He certainly did not make plans for the war except to drop bombs and fire off missiles. Trump said take Iran down, and Pete is trying to do so. That’s not working out too well, is it? We can be almost positive he didn’t listen to anyone in the military if they did not go along with what he said. This has been a disaster from the get-go, including dropping the “bunker busters” in June of last year. I don’t recall there being nearly enough destruction as there was claimed.

“‘This is all driven by the insecurity and paranoia that Pete has developed since Signalgate. Unfortunately, it is stoked by some of his closest aides who should be trying to calm the waters,’ an official said, referring to Hegseth’s March 2025 group chat with national security officials that inadvertently included a reporter.

Another source close to the administration told The Post, “[Hegseth] has got a big conflict with Driscoll. And he’s been told by the White House he can’t fire Driscoll, at least for the moment … he is very concerned about being fired. and he knows that Driscoll is one of the top contenders, or a natural contender, to succeed him. So what Pete has been doing is taking anyone he perceives to be close to Driscoll and going after them. And this is the latest and most spectacular [example] of that.”

BOOM. Quote: Just because you are paranoid doesn’t mean they *aren’t* out to get you. Remember his whole paranoia and making people in the Pentagon take lie detector tests? So, this has been building for quite a while. Is Pete finally figuring out he really isn’t qualified for his position? He could be hoping he can save himself. There’s a lot depending on the war. Once again, we’ll have to watch and wait. What’s next?

See you tomorrow … erm, later today!

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. 1) they called hegsdeath on not giving a star to two women and two blacks. Who earned them! 2) they do NOT want to put boots on the ground. They know that militarily it’s stupid.
He’s a Fox t.v. host with a war game mentality and he so wants to keep kissing 47’s ass. If he doesn’t show he’s transactional – he’s fired too.
We are in such a huge world of hurt and we are going to lose a massive amount of lives if Hegsdeath is allowed to continue.

    • I’m hoping that someone, anyone, will be able to talk Hegseth out of the land war. That’s a debacle in the making that hasn’t been seen for decades. And just like munitions, they can’t be replaced easily.

Agreed, we are already hurting, and still not much accomplished in this nonsense excuse for a war.
