Well, things seem to be proceeding apace. In the Ohio primaries last night, Ohio voters sent to the general election a slobbering Q-Anon MAGA moron. They did it because he ran against an incumbent GOP member who committed the apostasy of voting to certify the election results on 1/6. The district was considered competitive even with the incumbent in place.

And in another mentally challenged Ohio district, voters nominated a former peripheral Trump aide, with what was described as a thin resume, and whose Ohio conviction record includes Criminal assault, Destruction of private property, and Resisting arrest. What a Georgia peach this schmuck is. Thin an opponent may make hay out of that record?

When I see shit like this, the first thing that comes to my mind is the KC and the Sunshine Band classic, Keep it comin love, keep it comin love. Don’t stop it now, don’t stop it now. And here’s why.

Lost in all of the coverage of the Ohio primaries last night, especially the Vance race, was the fact that the state of Michigan also held a special election for an open US House seat last night. Maybe it was overlooked because the results were a foregone conclusion. After all, Trump won the district by double digits in 2020, and a Republican had held that seat for more than 30 years.

The Democratic challenger was a moderate, sane, white mother running for the seat. The GOP challenger was a card carrying, mouth breathing MAGA troll, who took pride in having made the worlds’ largest Trump sign in his front yard. He also has a shrine of MAGA memorabilia, and likes Q-Anon.

Well, guess what? The Democratic candidate won! In one fell swoop, she went up against a pathetic Trump troll, and in a district Trump won by double digits, and had a GOP rep for more than 30 years, turned all of that on its ear! To me, this is just a natural progression. A wrote a couple of times about how, after Trump was inaugurated in 2017, there were several special House elections to replace GOP House members that Trump had tapped for his administration. They were all safe districts. But while the Democrats didn’t actually flip any, each and every one of them chopped significant GOP Trump double digit wins into low single digits. This one just breaks the ceiling.

This is what I keep talking about. That wasn’t a swing seat, it was safe GOP. But no matter where you look, data keeps showing that Trump is poison once you get away from MAGA world. And now he cost them a safe seat. The more MAGA morons Trump forces through the primaries and onto the November ballot, the better the Democrats chances are of holding, and even expanding the House and Senate. That’s why I pointed out that 23% anti Trump vote last night in the Ohio GOP Senate primary. More and more people are getting sick and tired of Trump. Now we just need to make sure they stay that way. Don’t touch that dial.

  1. Pity this wasn’t the general.

As it is, the Rep. has less than 6 months to get enough name recognition to stand a chance in November, IMHO.

  2. Honestly, I suspect that people are going to be shocked by Dem gains in the fall the same way they were by Ukranian resistance to Russia.

    • I agree. I get so tired of hearing that historically, the party in the White House loses in mid-terms. Nothing happening in politics today has any historical basis. If it did, the GOP wouldn’t be a festering pit of outright and openly racist, misogynistic, raving seditionist lunatics sitting in congress. They’ve always been there but they were smart enough to keep it veiled.

  3. All very true. The biggest problem I think Democrats are facing right now is the media constantly pushing the idea that Republicans already have the mid-terms in the bag and there is nothing we can do about it. Even on the so-called left-wing MSNBC, they discuss politics as if Republicans are running both houses of Congress already. I worry about how that attitude could depress voters and cause us to lose races we could actually win. It’s very frustrating.

    • Counterpoint: if the media was half as right as it likes to pretend, Ukraine would once more be a Russian province by now. Popular and corporate sentiments so often miss the boat.

  4. Another reason to hope, is the leaked SC opinion. An article in Dallas Morning News says this could wake up suburban women. I think they are on to something.
