You remember how the 2016 GOP primary was quickly dubbed “The Klown Car?” This election cycle’s go round may soon be entitled the Keystone Kops, because so far there is a lot of manic running, hither and yon, but the direction and purpose of these races certainly is in question.

Take the following clip as an example. This played at the NRA.

It depicts Donald Trump as the willing dupe of the gun-hating, NRA-despising woke Democrats. However, in point of fact, what Trump is doing here is articulating what a lot of people would actually like to see done, vis a vis gun control, red flag laws and the like. DeSantis intended this to make Trump look bad. That may just blow up in his face.

The true comedy here is that DeSantis is a power for power’s sake guy. He has no interest in any kind of real social engineering. All he wants is power. He will say or do anything that he believes will aid and abet him in that quest, and that’s why he may put his foot in his mouth more often than not as the primary season shapes up.

Republican primary voters are not only a tiny segment of the population, apparently they are a segment who doesn’t care much if they put electable candidates on the ballot — if we are to judge from the likes of Herschel Walker, Adam Laxalt, Kari Lake, Mehmet Oz, and others from the 2020 Republican follies.

If the primary were to be held today, Trump would capture it. There’s little doubt of that. And judging from what we’ve seen by way of attack ads so far, DeSantis may actually be Trump’s ally in getting the nomination.

Mike Pompeo dropped out of consideration, as you may have heard. And Glenn Youngkin said that Virginia is his only focus right now. That leaves Ramaswamy, Haley, maybe Pence and maybe DeSantis. And DeSantis will have to resign as governor to run for POTUS, or get the Florida law changed. That should be engaging to watch, the way in which he finally handles that quandary.

  1. This madness and knives out among the GOP is great to hear, but it’s still 2023. Let this wild chicanery happen each day in 2024 and most of the country will rejoice in the defeat of the MAGA/Republican Party.

  2. DeSantis Scheme May Backfire. Red Flag Laws Ad Makes Him Look Bad, Not Trump

Desantis , in all things he does wants to project the image of the man who put the satan in Desantis .
So allow me to play devil’s advocate , and suggest that if the red flag laws make “bootsie” look bad , not “the teflon donk” , that could just be a bad-a-bing that’s going along smoothly , according to plan , as much as it pains me to think it .
