Think about how bonkers Trump would get if Democrats took one of Trump’s grifts, his ‘Trumpy Bear’ (yes, it was/is a real thing) and created their own version. Using a Panda with a Trumpy Head? Trump’s certainly given plenty of ammo to credibly claim he’s down to base pandering for votes. He’s almost to a point of with each individual voter asking what’s most important to them and then saying ‘That’s what I believe and I’ll take care of it on day one.” Of course he doesn’t mean it. All but those who drink gallons of the weirdly shade of orange Kool Aid know he’s lying with all his promises. He’s sure spending a lot of time lately telling one group one thing and telling another group the opposite.
It’s plain old naked political pandering. It first became evident with Project 2025 which was written by people he knows well, many of whom worked in his maladministration. Not to mention his VP pick J.D. Vance wrote the forward of the book the project leader wrote about it. As the summer progressed and more people started reading the whole thing it turned out even a lot of conservatives, people who’d want to be part of a non-MAGA Republican Party are aghast at what’s in there. So Trump started claiming he didn’t know anything about it (bullshit), or the people involved (more bullshit) and relegating anyone he knows who had anything to do with it to “coffee boy” status. The Heritage Foundation who was the driving force aren’t the least bit happy about that. In fact some of their leadership has gone so far as to say ‘Wait a minute – he’s been in the loop on this and approved of it all along!’ So Trump’s making nice with them or trying to by speaking at an event of theirs.
PANDERING.
That however pales compared to what’s going on with abortion and reproductive rights. Trump, and his pals on SCOTUS (except sort of Barrett) confidently predicted there’s be a couple of months of outrage after the Dobbs decision and that although pissed Democrats and Independents (and Republicans who don’t want abortion outlawed – those suburban soccer moms) would “get over it” and that would be that. 2018 wasn’t enough of a lesson for them. Neither was 2020 when voters could take it out on Trump directly. And in 2022, by which time Trump and his GOP cronies figured FINALLY the furor would die down they learned it hadn’t. No ‘Red Tsunami.’ For a while this year they had hopes that finally voters would have moved on but even Trump knows that it’s still a huge problem for him and the GOP.
Even after state after state including RED ones voted to enshrine abortion rights into their constitutions via ballot initiatives until recently Team Trump assumed abortion and reproductive rights wouldn’t be much of a factor this fall. Trump has belatedly realized with MORE states including some red ones having more abortion rights referendums on their ballots it’s a problem after all. Now, his position on abortion seems to change daily and its not going unnoticed. Particularly by Evangelicals and their leaders are plenty pissed.
USA Today has a write up on this you should check out. Trump’s waffling, flip-flopping and outright PANDERING for votes when he talks about abortion or infertility treatments (someone really needs to press him on prescription birth control) isn’t going to send Evangelicals rushing to vote for Harris or any Democrat. However, Trump is creating more than confusion with this group of zealots. It could lead to enough of a sense of betrayal that some might not vote this fall. Trump’s only chance is to get every vote of his base to turn out and this is a critical bloc. If they are discouraged it can matter.
However, even Trump can read a few questions on a poll and the numbers. Most Americans disagree with the Dobb’s decision, and favor a return to abortion access similar to what existed before. They also don’t want the government messing around in IVF (and other infertility treatments) availability. And continued access to prescription birth control. So Trump is trying to claim ‘everyone wanted it returned to the states and that’s what I did’ but he seems to be taking the next step(s). Like saying he won’t vote for a Florida amendment to ban abortion after six weeks, saying ‘six weeks isn’t enough time.’ Or saying he’ll protect IVF and even have the govt. cover the cost! THAT is really pissing off the Evangelical crowd. But again I say it’s just naked PANDERING on Trump’s part. That’s what he’s now reduced to. Pick this or any issue and he’ll make a hash out of it by openly and specific promises of one thing to one group and the opposite to another. And hoping no one notices.
All that brings me back to my idea of a “Trumpy Pander Bear.” Or Trumpy Pander Babbling Bear or whatever. Marketing isn’t my strong suit. The point is that a stuffed Panda with a Trump head on it would be memorable for its distinctive ridiculousness. And the box it comes in? Oh my the possibilities. You could even have it be like teddy bears or dolls from way back where you pull a string (nowdays you could just puch a button – or the nose) and it would “speak” – AI could generate Trump saying one thing to one crowd and the opposite to another.
Profits would of course go to the DNC to help our candidates. Best of all is that Trump would go batshit insane! Can you imagine his reaction to seeing this on the news, on social media and reports of sales bigger than his own Trumpy Bears? Call me crazy but I think I’m on to something here. The DNC or whomever has my permission to run with the idea and I won’t come suing if it takes off. Ok, it would be nice if it does that they’d cover the cost to fix my car or better yet find someone to give me an old but working one. That’s a big ask so I’ll settle for my very own (free) Trumpy Pander Bear, with maybe a White Dudes For Harris hat thrown in.
If you like this idea, please share it far and wide. I really think it would be priceless to catch Trump’s reaction on camera to a reporter holding one up for him to see and asking for his reaction to Democrats selling such an item.

Groucho may have prophetically identified how the politics of Trump and its current groundwork is based upon: “… the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies…” Interesting and nervous times lie ahead, perhaps.
Isn’t looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies… always been the way the GOP does things. None of their policies are ever meant to SOLVE ANY PROBLEMS, but just to make problems worse so they can blame the problems on the Democrats. It’s the only thing they have to run on, because they don’t have a single good idea to attract voters.

Trumpy Pander Bear? I always liked the Trumpty Dumpty riddles.
Trumpty Dumpty is classic.
😂🤣😊😅🤣😂😅😂🤣😂
Well, I for one, think free IVF is a winning campaign issue! Especially ’cause Trump is gonna get Mexico to pay fo it! 🤭✊
This was definitely not on my Bingo card. But I like it. A lot
I don’t suppose it would even have to be a terribly large production run. In fact, with the right publicity, one handcrafted one (or maybe even one AI generated picture) might be enough.
