If there is one character that the Democratic party could do without, and jimmy pronto, it is Dean Phillips. The guy is running a spoiler campaign against Joe Biden at the worst possible time in all of American history, when democracy itself is on the ballot. Phillips is not a Democrat, with a big D. I’m not sure what he is, but another D word, “defendant” may describe him accurately.

Phillips is having problems getting on the ballot in a lot of states, Wisconsin and Indiana, to name two. The story you’re about to listen to is out of Indiana.

This story breaks on the same day as Phillips’ dismal placing third in South Carolina, behind Marianne Groovy New Age Vibes Williamson. Dear God, if that alone isn’t enough of a sign for Phillips to get out of the race, I don’t know what is. I didn’t think it was possible, but I am coming to believe that the Democrats have spawned their own version of Ron DeSantis. Heaven help us.

Now don’t mock Chakra Con, she talks to her houseplants and rumor has it that they talk back. They ask, “Could you give us to the neighbors? Or leave us at the next garage sale, please?”

Can’t say as how I blame them. #DropOutDean is trending. Steve Schmidt is still listed as an “advisor” to Phillips and hopefully he’ll tell Phillips that the stars are not in the right alignment to be successful and besides, he’s a disaster as a candidate, second only to Ron DeSantis at this point — and closing fast behind.

If Phillips needs a Tarot reading, I’ll happily give him one. I can see it all now, The Tower, Three Of Hearts, Ten Of Swords. Run, Dean, run. Not for president, but for the nearest exit. Phillips is basically singing the same tune as Nikki Haley, that both Trump and Biden are too old. Age is not a virtue, it’s a temporary situation in life. I say that as somebody who has been old for some time now and I’m only going to get older — until I’m not here at all. Such is the reality of being a mortal being.

But Haley and Phillips both seem to think that they deserve to be on their respective tickets by dint of youth alone and so far nobody else seems to see things that way. Haley is not presidential material. She’s third or fourth string and is only in the position she’s in because the GOP is in a state of collapse.

I don’t know what misplaced sense of opportunism and fantasyland worldview motivates Dean Phillips. The man did not distinguish himself as a congressman to such an extent that higher office would be an expected, and even encouraged, path forward. He’s financially well heeled and maybe he suffers from the same ideation that a lot of wealthy people have, that everything is for sale, including the presidency.

And in this disastrous era of Trump, yes, if somebody that egregiously unqualified can get into the Oval Office than anything is possible for anybody. I do get that logic.

All that said, Phillips is a disastrous candidate. This dust-up in Indiana is not going to do him any good. #DropOutDean is good advice.

  1. Interesting on Dean here……….saw him on MSNBC’s The Weekend Show with Michael Steele, Symone Sanders and Alicia Menendez this morning and he seemed so incredibly sincere. So far I haven’t smirked.
He went round and round the houses ‘splaining how he wasn’t a spoiler and instead was trying to wake up ‘merica and especially everyone who is younger, whatever in the hell that even meant. And that “we” shouldn’t engage in a coronation. Again, whatever in the hell that means? So an incumbent president has to grovel? Has no right from the electorate for respect for his position, all he has done and seems to want to continue to do?
Thinking this relates again to the ageism issues covered in another article you wrote here Ursula……….

  2. Let’s be fair to Haley. She was our U.N. ambassador and a governor. She is a lot more qualified than most of the idiots who dropped out, except maybe for Chris Christie. DeSantis is lucky that he has to sit out a term before he can run again for governor. Maybe a,FL Congress critter or Senator will keel.over or retire and he can run for their seat. But it turns out most Americans want abortion to be legal, books they may find personally offensive to stay in libraries because they realize someone might be offended by books they love, and taking on Disney, third largest employer and largest taxpayer in the state is stupid and a,waste of taxpayer money
