It took less than a year for Bongino to realize he was out of his depth as the Deputy Director, the second-in-command at the FBI. Good for him. Seriously! After floundering his way through this and that, he decided enough was enough and announced his resignation. We wish specific (cough*Petey Boy*) others in Trump’s cabinet would do the same. It’s doubtful the ones we would like to see resign will, because they enjoy the money and the power. With appreciation to Raw Story:
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino officially left the agency he helped lead for just under a year, the FBI stated Sunday morning, according to CBS reporter Scott MacFarlane. Bongino’s stint at the FBI had been fraught with controversy, particularly after the agency had attempted to shut down all further investigation into Jeffrey Epstein last summer and concluded that no evidence existed to charge potential co-conspirators.
As mentioned, floundered. Perhaps he thought the job would be much easier, and that other things, like pay level and support, would be better, with the more experienced agents doing what the FBI does best – working on low-level and high-value cases without interference. Well, it wasn’t that simple because the big thing for months and months was about Epstein, which took a new LAW to release them. They just couldn’t be hidden any longer. And the pressure in the FBI was, shall we say, intense.
As a podcaster, Bongino had aggressively promoted theories around Epstein, saying as recently as February that, regarding Epstein, he was “not ever gonna let this story go.” Those remarks came back to haunt Bongino after he signed off on a memo that concluded Epstein did not maintain a client list, and that he did, in fact, die by suicide. Bongino’s tenure at the FBI had also been tumultuous, with reports suggesting that he had had an aggressive “face-to-face” confrontation with Attorney General Pam Bondi over the Justice Department’s botched handling of its investigation into Epstein.
So, which is it, oh Danny Boy? Yes, he was going after the Epstein files, no, they didn’t exist, and as we finally know, yes, the files are quite real. There were three problems with getting the files: The DoJ, the FBI, and Donald Trump and his “friends”. It would seem the first two could be cleaned up and make a statement within a week or two. But Donnie? No, that nut it took Congress to crack open, and they are still redacting before releasing. We were supposed to have ALL the files on December 19, gazillion pages or not. Pages of black are not a release and are a waste of printer ink or laser printer.
On his last full day at the agency, Bongino released a final message to his supporters on social media. “It was a busy last day on the job. This will be my last post on this account,” Bongino wrote. “Tomorrow I return to civilian life. It’s been an incredible year thanks to the leadership and decisiveness of President Trump. It was the honor of a lifetime to work with Director Patel, and to serve you, the American people. See you on the other side.”
The other side, indeed. They were probably checking up, down, and sideways to see if he hadn’t taken sensitive information off the job. That’s actually kinda silly. If he were going to take information, he would have done so *before* the last day. I wish him well. He had the guts to say “I’m not the right person for this” and get out. See you on the other side, indeed.
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
