If you hear bells ringing, it’s because Andrew Cuomo is sounding all the wrong notes right now of justification and endorsement of the cultural rearing which gives him a sense of entitlement as a powerful male to do what he wants. Apparently he doesn’t hear it that way and the entire issue is in enough of a grey area in the culture war right now to where a lot of people are going to side with him — and that’s what he’s banking on, apparently.

The problem with this justification, and I think you can ask any woman, is that a friendly hug is one thing, but lines get crossed very quickly and it turns into a grope. I have personally had this experience, one time with a church elder and it was a situation where I couldn’t speak out or it would have been a real scandal and worked to my detriment. Both this man and his wife were friends of mine. They were wealthy and powerful people, highly esteemed in the peer group in which I belonged. Believe me, it was nothing I could do anything about. And thankfully, it didn’t repeat.
Most women live in silence about these situations, because they are so common. You just learn to live with it, as one of the vicissitudes of life, guys do this, they get to do it, and if you feel exploited or demeaned — which you do, and which is a reasonable response — you can’t do anything about it. It’s just the way it is.
At least, that is how Andrew Cuomo’s justification here sounds to me. It sounds like total bullshit.
It will be interesting to see where this goes. And bear in mind, this is not just a heterosexual thing, men and women. There are men, John Weaver leaps to mind, who harass other men. Our culture is at a place where the gay aspect of this scenario gets a lot more attention than the straight. The true focus, I believe, is that it’s a power trip.
Al Franken got caught out for a tasteless joke and I still feel that that’s a tragedy. But this issue with Cuomo is different. He’s seeking to justify the unjustifiable and I see that as dangerous and back sliding.

I am attempting to get them fixed. Believe me, we have larger, structural issues to deal with first, but the emails are important.
I just can’t get worked up about Cuomo. I never liked him. He’s a bully who played footsy with the NY GOP. So I’m not invested in his survival or departure. I will say, however, that I don’t want to hear ANY Republicans waxing pious about any Democrat who defends him UNTIL they demand Madison Cawthorn, who has many more women accusing him of sexual harassment, resign from Congress.
Cuomo resign please. I know things were different back in the day, I work with women all the time. I don;t need to kiss or touch them beyond a handshake. My personal space is basically an arm length from any one else male or female in professional encounters. I learned this long ago, you should have learned this long ago. time to go. I will not defend you because I think trump and his behavior is disgusting along with his cronies. We cannot excuse your behavior and condemn trump.
