Once again in his desperation to tar and feather Hunter Biden with something, anything at all James Comer has once again dropped the pot of hot tar on his own foot. How desperate is Comer? This one is really something. According to Raw Story it seems there was a point in time where Hunter Biden was buying a truck and a bit short on ready cash. So he borrowed about four grand from a family member, in this case his dad. Not being a deadbeat, (like say a certain former President) Hunter Biden made three monthly payments of $1,380 to square things with pops.
No big deal. People borrow from family and friends all the time despite some who say it’s a bad idea. People can be deadbeats to their own relatives but that wasn’t the case here. In some families people actually keep their promises to each other. Anyway it was small amount of money for folks like the Bidens and promptly paid back so what’s Comer’s problem? Well, it turns out those three monthly checks came from the account of a business that Hunter Biden owned. And (horrors!) that same business had at times done business in China!
Comer probably creamed his jeans upon learning of this “connection” – that China “owned” Joe Biden via a four thousand dollar payoff passed through his son Hunter! The linked article notes all this happened back in 2018 when Joe Biden was a private citizen just like his son. A then/at the time retired dad fronting his son a bit of money I assumed was to get a quick deal on a truck purchase. But Comer has tried to turn it into something huge! Treat it like “BREAKING NEWS!”
The problem with that is it’s not news. Or new information. As Raw Story notes the New York Post (hardly a bastion of liberal reporting) wrote about this a year ago. There’s no link to the article but I think it’s safe to assume if there had been anything at all to this we’d have been hearing about it over, and over and over. There’s no more “there” there than was the case when the NY Post looked at it back then and found it to be a space filler story and nothing more.
This would be nothing more than an amusing story and not really worth writing about except for this. There’s a battle going on with Comer’s committee demanding Hunter Biden sit for a private deposition next week. For his part when he got the subpoena Hunter and his lawyer said fine, see you on the 13th and we’ll answer your questions but in a PUBLIC hearing. None of this behind closed doors craps where you guys have shown a long history of selectively leaking cherry picked questions/answers that create a false impression to the public.
THIS is exactly the kind of crap Hunter Biden and his lead attorney Abbe Lowell are talking about. Comer says his committee has “hundreds” of questions to put to Hunter Biden. He might not be lying about that but it’s mostly THIS kind of crap. Hammering on a freaking personal 4k loan for a truck and insinuating questions about using the transaction to launder Chinese bribes. Of course, that a truck was purchased proves it was an innocent transaction but that’s not the point.
Comer and his cronies want to ask Biden in private bull-shiite questions like this and leak parts of the questions and responses. Comer knows whatever personal problems he’s had Hunter Biden was a sharp and successful attorney in his own right and is well represented by a top drawer DC white collar lawyer who isn’t afraid to toss punches of his own. A day of asking Hunter Biden crap questions and Hunter handing the GOPers on the panel their asses is something Comer dreads. That’s why his promise of, after a private deposition to have a public hearing “at a later date” is so hollow.
This is what Comer and Republicans are reduced to. Trying to “get” President Biden via “getting” his son and this kind of crap is all they’ve got. It will be interesting to see what happens next week. Perhaps Hunter Biden and Abbe Lowell will, instead of heading to some out of the way room will instead walk right into the room where the public hearing would be held! Some committee Democrats can even ask him some questions while Comer, Jordan and the others run through the halls like their hair is on fire.
Time will tell.
Now let me see if I can understand this.
According to Comer, the Chinese government paid, via Hunter Biden, the fantastic sum of $4,140, spread over 3 months. Was that to buy the secret of the toilet paper supplier to the Biden household or, perhaps, to get the family recipe book?
I think the Bidens should donate the same amount to Comer and his ‘committee’ to purchase new straws (they seem to be running out of ones to grasp)
