There are a few key Senate races this fall on the ballot. To my mind there is not one which is more important than Colin Allred v. Ted Cruz (with the possible excepton of Debbie Murcasel-Powell and we’re going to talk about her, too.) Ted is another one of these Republicans who eats up the good money, the power, and the prestige of a Senate seat while not giving a tinker’s damn about his constituents. He was already to high tail it out of Texas and head to Cancun when a big storm came through, earning him the sobriquet “Cancun Cruz.” Was he thinking about his constituents and whether the power grid would hold, and if not, what could he do to help them? Get them into shelters, maybe, get a hot meal in them? Oh, puh-leeze. He had visions of the warm Mexican beach and a margarita in his hand. Teddums can’t be bothered with stressful situations. He’s got a podcast to prepare for.
Ted will lose. Everybody's on him. He's a phony. He has never done a thing in the Senate for his people in Texas. He's a thorn in their side. Embarrassed by him. We don't like Ted because he doesn't tell us why he goes by Ted . He lies about his name. His name is Raphael.

I hope Ted will lose. I pray Ted will lose. But thoughts and prayers are not what Allred needs, he needs cash — and VOTES if you happen to be in Texas. So if anybody here can spare a few bucks, this is the best cause that I can think of right now. If every Zoomer who clicks on this piece can just give the congressman what he’s asking for, three bucks, it will help him a lot.
I can think of nobody who I would like to see gone from the Senate more than I want to see Ted Cruz — except Rick Scott, who runs a close second. Another worthy race is Debbie Murcasel-Power v. Rick Scott and it’s tied as well.
Here’s the link to Colin Allred’s ActBlue donation page.
And here’s Debbie Murcasel-Powell’s ActBlue donation page.
These could be two decisive seats. If we can get Kamala in the White House, hang onto the Senate and regain the House, we can get some real work done for the next two years.
Rick Scott and Ted Cruz are good ole boys and they have been fixtures in the Senate for way too many years. The times they are a changing and if we can flip two key seats in deep red states, that would send one hell of a message.
Do what you can folks. We’re all in this together.

Cruz, Scott, and Marsha Blackburn are, off the top of my head, the senators whose seats I want flipped, and I’m elated to see that Ruben Gallego has a 15 point lead over Kari Lake in recent polls.
Per the “tie” in Allred’s tweet: HOW THE HOLY HELL can there be 18% of voters who are “undecided” in this race? The pair are tied 41-41 which adds up to 82; subtracted from 100, that leaves 18.
I could see a 46-46 tie. Even a 45-45 tie wouldn’t be that hard to believe. But a 41-41 tie with a little over 2 months before Election Day?
Then, I did a little checking–to see if there was a strong third-party candidate or something. And what I found is not quite as cheery.
That polling information (from the 2024 US Senate election in Texas Wiki page) was from back in February. More recent polling (as in “from the past month”) shows Cruz with a lead. One poll from the Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling, taken August 21-22, shows Cruz leading 47-45 with a 3.6 margin of error. But, another poll–from ActiVote (doing some checking, the “pollster” is web- or app-based, meaning participants go to them, so no chance of any rigging there, right?)–shows Cruz leading 55-45 with a 4.9 margin of error; the polling was open from August 13-29. Sample sizes were different as well. PPP’s poll took 725 REGISTERED voters while ActiVote’s poll relied on 400 LIKELY voters. I have to question ActiVote’s polling model when they leave a poll active for two weeks and only rely on such a small sample. You’d think, with such a wide window, there would be a larger sample; but I digress . . . .
Ol’ Cancun may or may not be the most vulnerable senator running for election this cycle, but he damned sure is the most loathed. This is nothing new however so how he has gotten re-elected up until now is truly mystifying.
