Well, we thought we had midterms to look forward to in order to start taking our country back. But now it’s not as straightforward as it seems. We’ve gotten a wakeup call, and everyone needs to know this. It’s not just about what’s happening now. It’s that it is happening, and it’s the beginning of the ramp-up to change the midterms we think we see coming. Raw Story:
Constitutional lawyer and writer David French issued a bleak warning Sunday over what he argued were clear signs of President Donald Trump’s plan to “unlawfully influence” the upcoming 2026 midterm elections. “A president who doesn’t care about the law, who commands an obedient Congress and is supported by a radicalized base of tens of millions of people who believe his lies, represents a threat to the next election,” French wrote in an op-ed published Sunday in The New York Times. “I fear that millions of citizens are still too complacent. They aren’t aware of the peril we face.”
That made me sit up and take notice right away. More people need to notice. What had begun as a hope and a goal is now shown to be incomplete. There is more to consider than candidates and voting. There’s someone near Trump who has put ideas into his head and made him think they are his own. Houston, we have a problem. Actually, more than one.
French cited historical precedent for his concern, pointing to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot that was fueled in part by Trump’s repeated false claims that the 2020 election was “rigged.” More troubling still, French argued, were more recent developments that he described as clear indications Trump is attempting to “engineer the outcomes he seeks” in the upcoming election. For instance, the FBI’s recent raid on a Georgia election center has raised alarms, given the involvement of Tulsi Gabbard, Trump’s director of national intelligence.
Tulsi Gabbard. Talk about making me eat my words that she had been quiet. Ouch. That raid was in a city a couple of towns away from our families. It fell off the news quickly, and we will need to dig into it. It’s more than a concern. It’s a worry. What has been altered that they took with them? How much has it been changed, and will it come back to bite us? Us doesn’t just mean those people in the city. It means the people in the state, and possibly in the country.
Trump’s mass deportation operations across the country – which have been documented for racially profiling suspects – could also suppress voter turnout by instilling fear among nonwhite Americans and discouraging them from leaving their homes or workplaces, French argued. Trump has also continued to perpetuate his false claims that the 2020 election was “rigged,” including with a recent social media post that suggested Italian satellites had hacked into American voting machines to change votes for Trump to former President Joe Biden.
Taken together, French warned that not enough Americans had confronted the possibility that Trump may very well shape the upcoming election results to his own liking. “So consider this to be something like a fire drill. It’s an alarm, one of thousands that should be ringing across the country. MAGA’s acts of aggression are already intimidating. Trump isn’t just trying to ‘stop the steal’ again; another kind of theft might already be underway.”
BOOM. This is going to take some hard fighting. These actions are already in practice, although the Italian satellites are an oyyyy. We need to pay attention to what Mr. French has said. We need to be prepared. We need to speak out. We need to help our non-white neighbors. We do NOT need to be complacent about everything going well. Wake up and smell the hot morning beverage, America.

I don’t know if you all are aware of this, but my husband showed me some legislation that is in the works. It will require voters to show proof of citizenship, such as birth certificates to vote. Which raises questions about women who changed their names in marriage. Of course their name doesn’t match the BC. Nobody gets a new birth cert when they are married! It’s one more way to minimalize women.
That has been tossed around for a while, considering the fact that states control their own voter ID laws it will be very difficult to implement. They also wanted one vote per household, the male vote, of course, which would lean to the right. All blatantly illegal.

I did not know about that and it’s *extremely* worrisome! Good gods what a thing to do. I guess it’s just as well that my husband emphatically did *not* want me to change my name. I was going to hyphenate but dropped the subject instead.
FYI in the province of Quebec women keep their maiden names and the kids are patrilineal. I think that is eminently 21st century (this law came in 40+ years ago!) and eminently sensible and fair to women. Just saying.
He’s keeping us so busy with the whole ICE debacle, among so many other things, he’s hoping we’re not paying attention to his attempts to rig this next election. When he makes accusations, you just know it’s exactly what he’s thinking and planning. The theft of the Georgia voting records, the attempts to force states to compromise citizen’s private information??? How can anyone NOT be concerned about what’s going on? It’s pathetically obvious what he’s up to. It’s what he’s always been up to: criminal behavior, cheating, lying, rigging every system he’s ever been involved in. Impeach, convict, lock his a** up!
