Full Disclosure I don’t watch much network television. Even as a kid, I never really much enjoyed getting myself wrapped up in a riveting story for like 7 minutes, and then having to suffer through 3 minutes of stupid, insipid television commercials. F*ck it, I’d rather read a book.

But now it’s September, and both college football as well as NFL football are back among us, two of my favorite pastimes. In my mode as a progressive blogger, I lean heavily to MSNBC, CNN, and occasionally FUX News to see what kind of lame propaganda the other side is putting out.

But now, with college football on the screen on Thursdays and Saturdays, and with the NFL on Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays, I’m spending more time on the networks. Mostly CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX and ESPN. And as a result, I’m starting to see something that I noticed locally here in Vegas being repeated nationally.

Here in Nevada, the Democrats have complete control of the airwaves. MSNBC isn’t the most neutral of outlets, but it’s representative of what I’ve seen on CNN as well. In every hour there are at least three puff pieces for Harris as well as a couple of Harris Super PAC ads savaging Trump. And Democrat Jacky Rosen for Senate has nothing going against her but an occasional attack ad from a GOP aligned Super PAC.

But now I’m watching network television for two straight days, Saturday and Sunday, for like 12 hours a time, from 10 am until about 10 pm. And you know what? It’s exactly the same on national broadcasting as it is on the cable news networks.

In every hour, there are at least three puff pieces for Harris, spliced with at least two anti-Trump Super PAC ads. And in all honesty, for over 20 hours of network football viewing, I didn’t see one pro Trump ad, nor one GOP negative Super PAC ad attacking Harris. The Trump campaign is stunningly absent from the two most highly watched television days of the week.

Now look, I’m in a deep battleground state of Nevada, and we’re used to carpet bombing advertising, but for the last three cycles, it’s been identical. The Democratic candidates, whether House, senate or presidential, run unlimited puff ads to promote their candidates, along with attack ads against their GOP opponents, and the GOP is radio silent except for a couple of Super PAC attack ads. And at least in Nevada, these are all on the part of the House and Senate candidates. Trump is radio silent.

This is critical because in the last month, the Harris campaign almost tripled the Trump campaign in fundraising, and has more than $400 million in cash on hand. This matters simply because it means that the Democrats can keep pounding home the same simple messages without opposition, not only on the airwaves but on digital media as well. And as Traitor Tot knows only too well, the more a single message is pounded home, the more it starts to be believed.

I’m just in one battleground state, but I can only imagine that the same scenario is being replicated in every battleground state. And when you throw in outside influences like Republican Voters For Harris start putting up billboards which people see every day, and hammering select districts with television ads, the Trump campaign is in the hurt locker.

58 days to go. About 40 hours until the debate. But in closing I have to say one thing. Right now the Democrats are running a smooth, well oiled machine that is hitting on all cylinders. At the same time, the Trump campaign is like the little Dutch boy, desperately running around trying to find enough fingers to plug into the holes in the dike. And Traitor Tot isn’t even trying to run an effective national campaign. Win the swing states, and you win the election. Nothing else matters.

I thank you for the privilege of your time.

  1. I spent the weekend in Pennsylvania. saw a lot of anti Casey adds and anti Harris ads watching college football. never saw an anti trump add. that may be on purpose. college educated women and men already lean left. they watch their home schools . they don’t need to see ads for Harris. I also am not sure how much advertising is pushing the needle. yard signs used to be a thing. they have disappeared. I guess people got the memo they don’t move the needle. tbh I am sure the smart people in the campaigns know how the money should be spent. one of the issues that came out of 2018 was run someone in every race. I wish more early money went to that rather than late money going to an ad blitz or more money going to just registration of voters. mis dos centavos

  2. In MT I haven’t seen much for prez ads but the senate race ad campaigns are making someone (s) a multi billionaire. I hoped that just watching football would mean I’d get bombarded by beer ads but ads put out by Senator Tester and shitty sheehy are pushing those out it seems. I didn’t watch any NFL games yesterday so I cannot speak for what bought up that ad time.
