You would think people would learn not to boast about something similar when you’re in a court case. You would think *all* of them had learned that by now. But no. And now those boasts have come back to bite you in the ass. Too bad, so sad. The judge noticed you boasting, and that gave her the last little bit she needed to finalize the case against you. Game over, sucker. YOU LOSE.
tRump flapping his gums lost a court case against law firm Perkins Coie. This happened to be one of the firms that Agent Orange had written an executive order against them because they had *dared* to do something that tRump didn’t like, namely, assist Hillary Clinton and George Soros. No idea what George did – probably just some nonsense that tRump made up because George pays for all these things to be done against tRump. As if! But, he’s convenient. Now, Hilary, well, the biggest thing has to be that she ran for President against him. There are some other things, but my memory is not clear about them, so I’ll skip them. Ah, here we go.
“Trump’s Thursday order cites the firm’s “dishonest and dangerous activity” stemming from its association with figures loathed in GOP circles: Hillary Clinton and George Soros. The order restricts the firm’s access to federal buildings and instructs federal agencies not to meet with its personnel and to terminate contracts held by firm clients. “By punishing a law firm for its advocacy on behalf of clients whom the President disfavors, the Executive Order is designed to have a chilling effect extending far beyond Perkins Coie,” the firm wrote in a legal memo ahead of the hearing, adding that the order “presents a clear and present danger to the administration of justice in the United States.”
So that’s what the Pampers President threw at them, and they decided that he had no right to make demands regarding their clients and went to file suit. Let me tell you, I wish all of the law companies had pushed back. There’s nothing quite like him “shaking down” law firms who have every right to have the clients they wish. All of them had done work or a lawyer who had done work with someone tRump considers to be on his bad side, aka his “enemies”. I didn’t dig into everything that the firms had “done” under the “god according to tRump” because this would turn into pages and pages and pages, and I’m writing a short piece, not a dissertation. Oh, and by the way….
Trump has likewise taken action against law firm Covington & Burling for its work for Jack Smith, the former special counsel who prosecuted Trump in two of his four criminal cases.
Really? Oy. But this one with Perkins Coie won’t be turning out badly. Let me show you why I laughed and laughed, and laughed.
In determining whether Trump’s order was “unconstitutional retaliation for plaintiff’s First Amendment protected activity,” Howell accepted the firm’s allegations that it had lost business, which the administration did not contest. But she also went further, turning to the administration’s deals with other law firms.
For Howell, a critical element in her assessment of whether the administration’s actions were punitive and retaliatory was the fact that those who entered into agreements with the administration were spared similar harms, with the administration either refraining from issuing orders punishing those firms or even withdrawing orders.
It wasn’t just the deals that caught the judge’s eye, but the president and his staff’s bragging about the agreements. For Howell, this made it evident that the punishment was the very point of the White House’s actions in the first place. In addition to noting the White House’s promotion of the agreements with these other firms, Howell also referenced the president’s own statements on the issue. She quoted, for example, his remarks at an event in early April:
“Have you noticed that lots of law firms have been signing up with Trump? $100 million, another $100 million, for damages that they’ve done. But they give you $100 million and then they announce, ‘We have done nothing wrong.’ And I agree, they’ve done nothing wrong. But what the hell, they’ve given me a lot of money considering they’ve done nothing wrong.”
Heh, heh, heh. You’re well on the way to being busted because you had to brag. You just *had* to brag. Did you think no one would notice? But no, you like crowing about your “victories,” and this time, too bad for you. It doesn’t matter if you’re the president. The judge noticed. You really didn’t need her to know that. And it’s too late.
Although the “precise terms of these deals” are “somewhat fuzzy,” Howell wrote, “what is clear is that the Trump White House has publicly touted the negotiated deals reached with various law firms, and equally clear is that those deal-making firms have been spared, or had revoked, an Executive Order targeting them.” The government’s promotion of those deals provided Howell with further evidence that President Trump was clearly singling out firms for retribution based on whether they entered agreements with the administration or not.
Perhaps Judge Howell’s decision would have been the same had Trump not trumpeted certain firms bending the knee to him. But this president and this administration could not help themselves. They just had to brag — and Howell used their own words against them.
Too bad, so sad indeed, boyo. You open your mouth and all this random crap comes out because you have no self-control, ever. You figure that since you’re the president, you can say anything you want. It doesn’t work that way. And you’ve played your get out of jail free card. You didn’t think you’d actually have to *work*. But you do. Learning to keep your mouth shut should be a top priority, but why? Because you really don’t care. It could be interesting to see how many more times you’ll get yourself in trouble because of that mouth. Thanks for sticking with me!
*****And now, please be so kind as to read a very special request from our awesome boss******
Zoomers, we are always in need of donations. It’s been an especially rough April, and my own health has not been great these past few weeks, which just adds to the frustration. Anything you can spare will be immensely appreciated. And thank you to all who have donated generously already. Ursula
