This is going to be debated in Trump world for at least a couple of news cycles: 1. Did Donald Trump cancel his Des Moines rally on May 13, 2023 because of a dreadful tornado on the way or 2. Did he cancel it because there were about 300 people there? Trumpty Dumpty doesn’t even turn on his phone for numbers like that. He demands quadruple and quintuple digits for breakfast, for heaven’s sake. You think he’s going to lift a ketchup bottle, even, with no audience?

There was a tornado “warning” in effect. There frequently is. They’re a lot like the flash flood warnings we get in the desert. You pay attention, certainly, but depend upon your own judgement and common sense because not every warning turns into a major, or even minor, storm event.

What’s that you say? Why didn’t Trump just take a sharpie and move the tornado wherever he wanted it? Good point. There may be a job for you yet at Team Trump.

Poor Trumpty didn’t get his MAGA fix today, either. Bummer. He was reduced to this.

That is some desperation for a MAGA fix, when you’ve got to ride on Mike Flynn’s coattails. Damn!

This is not a good sign. Ron DeSantis did two, count ’em two, rallies in Iowa today and Trump did zero. Not a good way to ramp up primary season. Not at all.

  3. I have a sneaking suspicion that it wasn’t just the lack of interest. With virtual gag orders hanging over his head and New York listening closely to everything he said in public, he realized that he had no new shtick to pursue and little of his old material that would not put him at risk, if repeated. Aren’t threats of gag orders and court ordered civility training wonderful?

  5. If there was a tornado “warning” in effect for the area, there were tornadoes in the area and/or conditions were favorable for the creation of tornadoes. The stay alert thing would be a tornado watch. Given the sunny skies, I’d say there might have been tornado watches posted, probably for a good portion of the state given it is May.

  7. I am a Never Trumper from Day 1, but this is a bad take: Tornado Warning means tornado on the ground, and there was that afternoon, in Marion County, about 45 minutes southeast of Des Moines. The rally was obviously a bust, but everything you’ve said here about the weather is demonstrably false:

    • To borrow and paraphrase a quote from a classic commercial us old farts remember, “It’s not nice to lie about Mother Nature!” You say you’re a never Trumper and always have been but it’s hard to believe that. Maybe living in DeMoines you don’t pay close attention to weather not in the city and got the link from someone but didn’t pay close attention. The rally Trump blew off attending was what, a couple of days ago? Yet the story you cite which is an initial report of a brief tornado touchdown (I’ve been as little as a couple hundred yards from more than one tornado that’s touched down and know how damaging and even deadly even that much can do) that was over a month BEFORE the rally in question. So I see two possibilities. Either you got duped by an acquaintance and passed along a news report you didn’t pay close enough attention to, OR you are a liar who’d trying to dupe the rest of us with a MISLEADING claim, hoping WE are too stupid to notice when this “legitimate reason for Trump staying home” is bogus. Either check out your sources more carefully before touting them (if you really are a never Trumper) or STFU with your DIS-information and go away.
