This is as fresh at it gets. MSNBC broke the news in the last ten minutes that The New York TimesĀ is reporting that former President Donald Trump has been advised by Manhattan DA prosecutors that he is likely to soon be indicted.

This appears to be due to the fact that in New York state, a criminal target has the right to appear before the grand jury to answer questions before any indictments are issued. The letter sent to Trump gives him untilĀ next FridayĀ to appear in front of the grand jury if he so chooses.

Experts say that it would be highly unlikely for a DA to issue such a letter, and then later decide not to follow through with indictments. The NYT went on to report that in the last week, Trump’s attorneys have been seen in the DA’s office, likely trying to dissuade them from indicting Trump.

The prosecutors indicated to Trump’s lawyers that any indictments would stem from Trump’s alleged involvement in theĀ Stormy Daniels hush money payment. There is nothing in the NYT’s reporting indicating whether or not any other people face indictment from the operation.

Here’s how I see it. Common sense would indicate that offering Trump a chance to testify in front of the grand jury would be the last witness. That way the grand jury has already heard anything that the DA wants to question him about.

If as expected, Trump declines to appear, then the DA could conceivably go into the grand jury the next Monday or thereafter, and request his indictments. Once he has them, I have no procedural work he has to before he’s ready to unseal the indictments.

Depending on when Trump’s lawyers actually received the letter, this may be the reason for Trump’s rather unusual turn of a phrase at his CPAC speech when he said,Ā I am your retribution.Ā It may also be the reason Trump did his best MussoliniĀ in jutting out his chin and swearing he would remain in the race no matter what.

This has been a long and winding road, but for the first time there are indications that someone is actually pull the trigger and indict Traitor Tot. With any luck, we’ll know in the next 10-14 days. Don’t touch that dial.
