If one looks at a map of the NBA teams in the U.S. (We’ll give Toronto a Canadian pass), it would be impossible to find a team more intertwined with the Caribbean than Miami. The city is infused with an eclectic culture, actually, it would be hard to find a more diverse city at all. Perhaps New York City – because it’s pretty well the de facto capitol of the world. But otherwise, Miami is it and definitely has always had an overwhelming and wonderful Caribbean culture.
Today the team’s focus was on the Haitian community and its commitment to protecting the rights of all. The team put out a tweet found below stating that the Heat are committed:
“like Miami itself, is a diverse and brilliant mix of vibrant cultures, including many members of our Haitian community.”

Exactly. And because the NBA depends largely on immigrants and men of color, the league’s commitment to civil rights is without parallel in sports. Controversies regarding civil rights are often addressed by many teams, and the Heat’s statement took on the bigger issue by adding that:
“the false narrative surrounding them is hurtful and offensive and has sadly made many innocent people targets of hateful speech and physical threats.”

Again, the league’s support for civil rights, matters. That commitment is put out in proud and serious tweets. The league also has an official committee made up of the National Basketball Social Justice Coalition. In a description of the Coalition’s duty on its web page, it states:
Against the backdrop of rising hate crimes in the U.S., Coalition Board members Jrue Holiday (Boston Celtics Guard), Micky Arison (Miami Heat Managing General Partner), and J.B. Bickerstaff (Cleveland Cavaliers Head Coach) pen a compelling op-ed for USA Today arguing for the power of sports to unite and heal, reaffirming the NBA’s commitment to social justice.
It is not a surprise that the league would also support immigrants in a league whose three best players are immigrants (It’s true) including: Joel Embid, Luka Dončić, and the man lovingly called the “Greek Freek,” Giannis Antetokounmpo – who represent the league’s proper commitment to immigration matters. Concern over matters that include people of color needn’t even be described, nor justified. It is properly rock-solid. The magnificent support for people of color, like almost all Haitians, has been addressed by prominent Golden State’s coach Steve Kerr, who was concerned about the issues in the Colin Kainepernick.matter:
“I understand people who are offended by his stance,” he said. “Maybe they have a military family member or maybe they lost someone in a war and maybe that anthem means a lot more to them than someone else. But then you flip it around and what about non-violent protests? That’s America. This is what our country is about. It’s a non-violent protest.”
As stated above, things like this matter. People who may not associate causes with organizations like the Heat might rethink the matters created by lies regarding Haitians. The statement may lead people to do more research on the matter in order to learn the facts.
This is as good – it represents true and committed beliefs.

Cue Faux Nooz’s Laura Ingraham with another “Shut up and dribble” comment. Remember that one? She’s taller than average I think, which makes me wonder if she played ball when she was back in school. Nah. Now that I think about it she wouldn’t have lasted the first practice. She’d have been MIGHTILY offended that non-white gals didn’t simply recognize her ‘superior’ genes, that Aryan white skin with blonde hair and blue eyes and simply step aside so she could go in for an easy, unchallenged layup. Oh the humiliation Laura would have felt over her White Privilege NOT being accepted. Anyway I’m sure she’ll weigh in on this. Not that I intend to waste time watching. I don’t just hope von shitzi and hillbilly boy get trounced in Nov.-I hope the whole magat/con/xtian movement, pols, etc. goes straight to the trash heap.
