Corey Lewandowski is probably popping the champagne this evening with the announcement former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem has filed for divorce. I’ll get to that. But it’s true – Noem has filed the paperwork to officially be done with her husband of 34 years.
Like so many prominent conservatives who preached “family values” the Noem’s were somewhat less than traditional family people. That Noem was carrying on a long affair with former Trump staffer Cory Lewandowski was one of the worst kept secrets in DC. Hell, Kristi and Cory were together a LOT. He’d installed himself as a pretty much full-time but unpaid assistant to Noem at DHS and was said to be the one actually tending to the details of managing the behemoth agency.
The salacious gossip likely included a pool on how many times the pair renewed their membership in the proverbial “Mile High Club” jetting around the country on DHS planes. The whole thing reached a crescendo when DHS acquired that lavish jet and it got tricked out into an even more plush flying palace. Trump didn’t know whether to admire the audacity or be jealous remembering when he was their age! Whatever. Noem became too much of a liability so Trump fired her. (And still let her stay in government housing at Andrews in a house meant for an actual General)
One wondered her husband put up with the affair for so long. Then, as this E! News article reminds us Noem’s husband Bryon had some less than standard ‘Christian Family Values’ of his own. ICE Barbie was furious when pictures of her hubby surfaced of him dressing up as a woman, complete with fake breasts. I for one wonder if it wasn’t the dress that got to her as much as the fake boobs. I haven’t seen the images but it’s worth asking if Kristi was jealous of her husband having better fake boobs than she did! Well, that’s something I hope to never think about again.
What matters is that Noem six months after the pictures appeared Kristi Noem, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ (somehow I think there’s a lot more involved) has filed for divorce. It seems that Noem was really embarrassed. You have to assume Trump both yelled at her and teased her about it. But apparently she was humiliated:
News of the couple’s divorce after 34 years of marriage comes months after photos of what appeared to be Bryon dressed in women’s clothing and donning fake breasts were published by the Daily Mail March 31, with the outlet alleging that the 56-year-old had been living a double life where he chatted in online fetish forums with models.
At the time, a rep for Kristi—who shares daughters Kassidy, 32, and Kennedy, 29, and son Booker, 24, with Bryon—said the former South Dakota Governor was “devastated” by the images.
The linked article goes on to say she was “devastated.” Did she know about her husband’s fetish? Hard to say. It does explain why Bryon didn’t divorce HER given how widespread knowledge of her affair was. Then again maybe he’s someone who gets off on watching his spouse/partner with other men. I’m not passing judgement. In general what consenting adults do to enjoy their sexuality is no one’s business but their own. EXCEPT when they go preaching traditional marriage/relationships to others and even more so when they are public figures doing so. Then they are fair game to be called out and ridiculed for their hypocisy.
Well, I won’t shed any tears for Kristi or Bryon Noem. I do feel bad for their kids who will, at least for a while have to put up with whispers behind their backs. But they are adults and should be able to get through it although having been raised by that set of parents it might be tougher than it would for a lot of people. So much for Trump’s claim he’d only appoint ‘the very best people’ to his administration.
One last thought. Unless I’m mistaken Cory Lewandowski is still married. It will be interesting to see whether he too will file for divorce. Or, since Kristi no longer has her fabulous job and all those perks that went with it he’ll dump her and start an affair with someone else. Melania perhaps?
