There’s not much to this story, so my column will be shorter than usual. Maybe. Write this day down on your calendars because you know I get carried away with news to write about. Bill Clinton has stepped up to comment on testifying. Comer is looking worse and worse. But he can’t back down now because it will make him look like a scared schoolboy. What he apparently doesn’t consider is how bad he looks already. Dude screwed up. With thanks to Raw Story:
Former President Bill Clinton threw down the gauntlet for House Republicans: if you want my testimony so badly, let me do it in public. “I will not sit idly as they use me as a prop in a closed-door kangaroo court by a Republican Party running scared,” Clinton posted to X on Friday. “If they want answers, let’s stop the games & do this the right way: in a public hearing, where the American people can see for themselves what this is really about.”
Oooooo ta! Yep, the Oversight Committee did not know what they were getting into when they started this. The Clintons are not scared and not running away. Now they *really* won’t want a public hearing for questions. Kangaroo court, indeed. Comer wishes he could just bounce, bounce away, and the issue would vanish because this made him look very, very bad. Good! He deserves it. Petty little whiny boy.
Bill and Hillary Clinton have been a focus of House Republicans for weeks in what critics deride as an effort to spin the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case files to take the focus off of President Donald Trump’s numerous appearances in them. Bill Clinton is one of the most prominent people known to have associated with Epstein, and is known to have flown on Epstein’s private jet multiple times. He has denied ever having visited Epstein’s notorious private island, where authorities have said children were systematically sexually abused. No evidence to date has emerged implicating him in Epstein’s crimes.
We’ve all seen pictures of the interior of Epstein’s plane. Looks pretty cushy. So why not hop on for a comfortable flight? Probably made the Secret Service breathe a sigh of relief since it made their job easier. There’s much less public contact and fewer chances for something to happen to him. So whoop-dee-doo, he flew on the jet.
Initially, the Clintons balked at what they considered to be highly politicized conditions for their testimony, which led a House committee to vote to criminally refer them for contempt of Congress. House GOP leadership actually considered bundling a full contempt referral vote on the House floor in with the legislation to reopen the government, as a means of sweetening the deal for budget hawks or MAGA lawmakers enraged about a compromise designed to negotiate for immigration enforcement reforms. In the end, though, the Clintons agreed to testify, taking the possibility of a full House vote on contempt referral off the table.
In a way, I wish they had tried for a contempt vote. The Clintons would have smacked them down but good. We won’t get to see it, but we can bet there will be serious clapbacks in their testimony. This hearing is blatant politicizing to distract from Trump, although there’s not much that can be spun after that video he posted earlier. Trump can’t ever play it cool and step back for a while. Lawd knows there’s enough news about ICE and CBP to distract the public. And Trump’s cabinet is not exactly doing well. But he keeps opening his mouth and saying stupid shizzle, so there will always be news about him, and not much of it will be good news. But in the meantime, the Clintons have said, “Good grief, fine. We’ll come”. Going from the public statements they’ve made thus far, Comer keeps appearing worse and worse. Oh, to be able to sneak into that hearing.
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

Well, since both Bill and Hillary have made their appearance CONDITIONAL, they could still face contempt charges since I don’t believe they’ve actually said they WILL come. Both have said, “Fine, you want us? Then OPEN the hearings to the public. Go eff yourself, otherwise.” Perhaps I’ve misunderstood what they’ve said as “Okay, we’ll be there but we really wish you’d have public hearings instead of behind closed doors so you can use what we say completely out of context and to make Old Dumbo look all the better–even though we, and you, full well know his name is so deep in those files.” Or maybe I just missed where Comer said, “Fine. Open hearings for you and open hearings for you. Hell, open hearings for everyone!”
Okay, I interpreted it as “fine we’ll come but they should be public.” So your point makes this an interesting hair to split. Did they say fine but it has to be public, or did they say fine let’s get this over with. Either way, they both have thrown down that suit of armor, and Comer looks more and more foolish by the day. This makes me happy because this a$$ needs to be put in his place. I was not expecting Bill Clinton to come out and say something similar to what Ms. Clinton did.
At this point, it looks to be wait and see.
