How soon we all forget. And in the Era of Trump, we can be forgiven for forgetting a lot, because it’s been one non stop firehose of falsehoods. Trump pumps out lies the way most people breathe. But the Biden-Harris campaign has been keeping track and here on the anniversary of the Uvalde, Texas school massacre, we are reminded once again, what a callous, out of touch, complete wash out of a man Donald Trump is. Because this time, he didn’t lie. He told the truth. And what a horrible truth it was to hear.

I well remember the green shoes as being the only means by which one of these kids could be identified. Imagine the horror, in going to I.D. your child and the hollow point bullets had so ripped her apart that an article of clothing was the only thing left to make an identification? But to this Trump admonished, “Get over it.”

It made me wonder at the time if one, or let’s say all, of Trump’s own kids were blown to pieces. Would Trump have “gotten over it?” as he tells other parents to do? The man has no empathy. MAGAs can say what they will about Joe Biden, he is someone who has lost a child. He will never tell the families of victims of school shootings to “get over it.” Biden knows only too well that it’s something you never get over.

And did you notice how Trump was in his hyper-defensive position, arms crossed across his stomach, when he mentioned how “close” he was to the NRA and they to him? That’s a telling moment.

And they won’t believe. MAGA will not believe. It’s straight out of Orwell, “The party told you to ignore the evidence of your own eyes and ears. It was their final, essential command.”

And it’s not the only time he has said it. If you hit the blue link above in the tweet, it takes you to an article documenting that Trump also said it in Iowa.

Donald Trump told an audience at a campaign event on Friday in Iowa to “get over” a deadly shooting at a high school in the state a day earlier.

After offering sympathy and emotional support for the victims of the shooting in Perry, Iowa, and their families, Trump said at the event in Sioux Center: “It’s just horrible – so surprising to see it here. But we have to get over it. We have to move forward.”

Trump’s comments on the shooting that occurred about 36 hours earlier were the first he had made addressing the violence.

Friday’s remarks were not the first time in the last year that Trump has apparently tried to deflect from having a substantial conversation about gun violence in the US. During a speech in April 2023 to the National Rifle Association, Trump argued that the long history of deadly school shootings in the US is “not a gun problem”. He instead blamed the issue on Democrats, mental health issues, marijuana and the transgender community.

Trump’s recent comment on the Perry shooting was criticized by the Democratic Super Pac American Bridge.

“We knew Trump lacked empathy for others, but no one thought he could go this low and tell Iowans to simply ‘get over it’ as they grieve from a situation communities across the country know all too well,” the American Bridge presidential campaigns communication director, Brandon Weathersby, said in a statement on Trump’s comments. “This is beyond the pale, even for Trump.”

Good for Team Biden for refreshing everybody’s memory about this travesty. That’s what they need to keep doing. Trump is not a normal human being. He is definitely not an adult. And he’s made it abundantly clear on more than one occasion that he intends to do absolutely nothing about gun violence. School shootings will keep happening. And Trump’s only advice to you: “get over it.”
