Rigel Robinson is a recent graduate of UC Berkeley and the youngest person ever elected to the Berkeley, California City Council.
The council recently passed legislation to remove all gendered terminology from the city code, replacing, for example, words like manhole, policemen or policewomen, chairman and man-power. Manhole will be switched to maintenance hole, and manpower will be switched to human effort.
Makes sense, right, although I prefer “people power” as a sly nod to the sixties…
But I’m old as dirt, which Rigel is not.
All this was too much for Tucker Carlson, however, who wanted to feature Robinson on his daily white troglodyte grievance and pity party hour, and set one of his show bookers to the task of bringing Rigel onto his program, where he could presumably talk over him and nod in commiseration with his viewership at the Berkeley Council’s assault on their manly manliness.
But, Rigel wasn’t playin’ that.
From the email exchange with the show’s booker:
“We are interested in hearing more about how this came to be and how the community is responding,” Gilman wrote in the email.
Robinson, a UC Berkeley grad who became the youngest person ever elected to Berkeley’s city council, was nice enough at the beginning of his response to Gilman, thanking her for reaching out to him.“Unfortunately I won’t be able to come on the show,” he wrote.
But his reason for not appearing on the show turned into a massive criticism of the Fox News star.
“Tucker Carlson is a dangerous, xenophobic, racist, white supremacist goblin who I am not interested in engaging with,” he wrote.”
Thanks for speaking for so many of us, Rigel!
