Session nine of the January 6 Committee hearings will go forward this Thursday at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. This is prime time, it should get a yuge audience, which makes you know who cringe.
The focus of the hearing will be Donald Trump’s dereliction of duty, why he did whatever he did for three hours, watch TV we are told, and did nothing to stop the riot. That ought to make Kevin McCarthy cringe, since he was the one who admitted he spoke with Trump three hours earlier and Trump promised he “would put something out.”
But this Thursday’s hearing will not be the final one. Two more are scheduled.

Maybe this will be the source of an October surprise. Wouldn’t that be nice?
One thing is certain: there is no lack of criminality. It’s only a question of what can be proven. If we’ve learned one thing about the Trump administration in general and the Capitol riot in particular, it’s that the absolute worse people were involved and they were all hell bent on destroying the democratic way of life and keeping Orange Julius Caesar in power.
Sorry, this isn’t ancient Rome. We don’t knife people in the back on the Senate steps — a least not yet. We’ve still hanging onto our dignity and our way of government, albeit by a thread.
Just as a side note, and forgive me for going from the sublime to the ridiculous, July 21 is also the date that Mike Lindell says he’s going to Arizona with a “plane load of lawyers and cyber guys” and some legal miracle will be wrought by which Trump is reinstated.
