AP: Giuliani Demands DOJ Briefing on Classified Evidence Re: Origin of Investigation

I wonder how far we are from Trump declaring that he is suspending the constitution due to everyone “out to get him.”

Never mind.

A.P. reports Rudy Giuliani, said late today that the White House “hopes” to get a “readout” of the classified information given to Congress next week, they are particularly keen to know about the use of a longtime government informant who approached members of Trump’s campaign in an attempt to get information on Russian efforts to sway the election. Trump obviously claims that any such activity constitutes “FBI misconduct” and “political bias” and has denounced the asset as “a spy.”

The issue as to whether the confidential informant delivered evidence that Trump did collude with Russia apparently doesn’t matter. In fact, in Trump’s world, the more evidence the confidential informant gleaned against Trump, the more “proof” it likely constitutes that this was all an attempt to “get him.”

Dick.

He is going to use this as a pretense to fire Mueller – as if you need to be told.

“If the spying was inappropriate, that means we may have an entirely illegitimate investigation,” Giuliani said of special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe. He then invoked the material compiled by former FBI Director James Comey before he was fired.

“Coupled with Comey’s illegally leaked memos, this means the whole thing was a mistake and should never have happened,” Giuliani said. “We’d urge the Justice Department to re-evaluate, to acknowledge they made a mistake. It’s a waste of $20 million of the taxpayers’ money. The whole thing is already a waste of money.”

Or, if the confidential informant helped in an investigation that demonstrates that the United States president is wholly compromised by the Russian government, and possibly the Saudis, Emiratis, and who knows who else, it would be the best money the government ever spent. That seems to be beside the point to Trump.

One wonders why Trump and Giuliani need even make the demand, except for dramatic impact, because Chief of Staff Kelly and Trump’s one real lawyer, Emmet Flood, both weaseled their way into the briefing given to Nunes and Gowdy just yesterday. They already have the evidence, this is all for show, and the “show” is ultimately firing Robert Mueller, to wit:

The president intensified his attacks on the probe this week, calling it “spygate” and tweeting Thursday that it was “Starting to look like one of the biggest political scandals in U.S. history.” Trump told one ally this week that he wanted “to brand” the informant a “spy,” believing the more nefarious term would resonate more in the media and with the public.

It’s all a big TV show until someone gets hurt. That “someone” will be the public servants of the United States of America who put their lives on the line – Putin plays for keeps – in order to investigate this as a matter of law, and will be accused of being political operatives carrying out an illegal vendetta.

Oh, last thing, Rudy, dumbass – let’s pretend that the use of a confidential informant indeed was not done “legally,” as in that no probable cause existed to use a confidential informant. In the real world, that would not make the “entire investigation” illegal, it would mean suppression of the evidence gathered by that particular informant. if sufficient independent evidence exists, and it often does, and that information is sufficient to convict, the investigation succeeds. In practical terms, if that means that the FBI told Mueller that Flynn lied on tape, and Flynn pointed Mueller toward money Trump received from Russia, none of that requires information from a C.I. and Trump goes down – in theory.

Trump is dangerous, this matter is reeling out of constitutional control. One ray of hope from the article, stalwart Republican Lindsey Graham said: “A confidential informant is not a ‘spy’.”
