Less than one month now until November 5. Never have the battle lines been so clearly drawn nor the stakes so high. The one-hit wonder that staged the surprise victory in 2016 is still at it, trying to capture lightning in a bottle twice. The plain fact is that four years ago he had 81,000,000 Americans vote against him and that number could be larger next month. In fact, it virtually needs to be larger, because the larger the margin of defeat for Trump, the less grounded his claims of *stollen election* will be.
And it’s not just Trump. As Barack Obama opined years ago when the electorate did the unthinakble in 2016, “Trump’s not the cause, he’s the symptom of what’s wrong.” Hillary Clinton was a fine candidate and a stateswoman of considerable stature. She was not the right candidate for the moment. That happens sometimes. It certainly happened in her case.
Now the Republican party is looking at another loss and it could extend well beyond the presidency. It could affect the down ballot. Conventional wisdom has plotted a GOP-led Senate this year. Yes, the map is drawn that way, Democrats are at a disadvantage. But don’t count on anything being carved in stone. Not this fall of 2024. There are competitive races for the Senate in Florida, Nebraska and Texas. It ain’t over until it’s over.

This wasn’t even three months ago and it feels like it was last year. There is so much crazy news around this man. That’s always been the case. Trump has probably generated more headlines than any ten presidential candidates, seriously.

Let’s put it this way, I don’t think Trump did himself the favor, or any Republicans running for office in Colorado, that he wanted to do yesterday, when he depicted Aurora, Colorado as “Occupied America” in need of his “liberation” and called Governor Polis a “chickenshit.” This isn’t 2016. I absolutely LOVE that LP Ed O’Neill ad, and I’d like to see it in maximum saturation during prime time evenings and weekend sports programming on CBS, NBC, FOX, and the CW, along with all major market indie channels. Ed nails a PERFECT intensity increase as he runs through his voice-over, making this one of the most effective political TV spots I can remember seeing.
