Another first in Trump world. The last six weeks out from a presidential election and the GOP nominee is simply not showing up anywhere. It’s true. If you look at the list of official events for the Trump/Vance ticket next week, Trump intends to show up once in Pennsylvania. That’s on Monday. That.Is.It. He has nothing on schedule the rest of the week. J.D. Vance will be busy. He’ll be in North Carolina, Michigan, and Georgia. That takes Trump/Vance up to Thursday of next week and as to Friday and the weekend, who knows?

So maybe this is the new normal, Trump makes one appearance a week, Vance makes three, and this is how they’re doing the big push before Election Day? Or, maybe the schedule that will come out next week for the weekend will show them both busting it. Who knows?

What we do know is that both Tim Walz and J.D. Vance appeared in Pennsylvania on Saturday and they had very different crowds.

You see where we’re going with this. How can Trump/Vance achieve big crowds if the GOP standard bearer himself hardly ever bothers to leave his house and show up on the campaign trail? And yes, it is comical, that this is exactly what he used to accuse both Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden of doing, hiding at home. Trump claimed they were too “weak” or “tired” or “afraid” to come out and campaign and now he’s doing that very thing.

Now Lincoln Project has lost no time in making videos about the disintegration of this campaign and here’s a possible answer for all this.

I think Trump hates getting out there on the campaign trail. It’s not what it used to be in 2016, when he had the vitriol flowing and the crowds were screaming and that empty place inside of Trump where his soul should be was getting filled. At least for a while, and then he’d have to schedule another rally and get another fix. We know he got very upset during the debate when Kamala said that people leaved during his rallies. Well, here we go again with footage of yet one more rally displaying that that is exactly what happens.

Ron Filipkowski is right. There are a set number of Trump topics and Trump schtick. Many’s the time I think that if I hear about Hannibal Lecter or see the transgender athlete mockery one more time that my head will explode. It just gets old. I’m assuming that people who show up in the first place to one of his rallies do so thinking that maybe he will be interesting in person or maybe he’ll say something new. But I guarantee you, if you have followed Trump’s rallies for any length of time, they are dull and predictable. Not “high energy and high impact” like his campaign team described them the other day, when Arizona MAGAs began showing up in ERs due to some chemical spray in their eyes.

I’m assuming that “high impact” means high cultural impact. Not unless boredom is something that moves the cultural needle these days. The polls have not been moving in his direction, there’s no impact there.

I think that on some level Trump knows the game is over. And so he is understandably disinclined to keep suiting up and showing up when it’s an act of futility. If, on the other hand, he thought he was winning, he would love to take up CNN’s offer of a second debate with Kamala on October 23.

And maybe he will show up. I say that because Trump is a slave to public opinion. And if he believes it would make him look good, and it would “show Kamala” a thing or two, I believe he would do it. I also believe that his campaign managers are urging him not to go anywhere near a debate stage with Harris again. But if the right voice persuades him, Laura Loomer or Alina Habba or Tulsi Gabbard, I believe that he might just go and do it.

So how can we figure a way to get the ears of one of them? Because I totally believe that a second debate would finish Trump off, particularly less than two weeks before Election Day.

  1. I’ve been watching college football blow outs today when over matched teams taking on much stronger opponents. they come out eager but by third quarter they just look beat. fans head for the exits. trump looks like that now. lost in the third quarter beat down. his fans are heading for the exit. losing can be contagious and depress all the down ballot races.

  2. “But if the right voice persuades him, Laura Loomer or Alina Habba or Tulsi Gabbard, . . . .”

Are Loony Laura, Addlepated Alina or Traitorous Tulsi still on the scene helping “persuade” Donald of anything?

I’d have thought that Tulsi would’ve been sent into exile after Donald’s disastrous debate performance (I know, Donald thought he won but even he had to have heard all the media–even the right-wing propaganda machines–talking about Harris’s coming out as the winner and, in Trump’s world, SOMEONE ELSE must always pay for Donald’s failures and shortcomings, no matter their standing the day or hour or even minute before the failure).
