Celebrate! Celebrate! Dance to the music! Celebrate! Celebrate! Dance to the music! Something has happened that pleases me very, very much. I’m still in shock because I thought this would happen but couldn’t be sure it would. Never assume, yannow? This, however, is a “V For Victory” dance and I’m having some fun! Of course, this is old news right now but still dancing!
Reagan-appointed Judge John Coughenour has blocked the executive order from The Cheesy Poof Traitor Tot ending birthright citizenship. “I have been on the bench for over four decades. I can’t remember another case the questions presented was as clear.” He asked “Where were the lawyers” when the decision to sign the executive order was made. It “boggled” his mind that a member of the bar would claim the order was constitutional.
I was hoping for this. No matter what the Mango Mandarin would say, this rush to end birthright citizenship is UNconstitutional and he has a fight on his hands. I expect he thought this would just skate through as the final step in his immigration “plan”. I have yet to find (but anything’s possible) a sane, logical reason for ending this amendment. If he’s sending all these people back to their home countries, and they have children born here, they are American citizens. So how does he intend to get these children out of here? They can’t necessarily get passports for them to come home with them if there’s no diplomatic mission available. Then what? Give them to strangers? What if they have no one who is an American citizen able to stay in the country who can take them? This is incredibly heartless and I’ll bet it doesn’t bother tRump a bit.
It starts out so “simply” with an EO and then it just blows up from there. Multiple challenges are being brought up by attorneys general, immigrant rights groups, and even individual people. The states are also getting into the fray, as this shuts the children off from federal benefits they would be entitled to, and the burden on the states increases both financially and logistically. Children denied citizenship will face long-term substantial negative impacts. Just found a note that says it’s entirely possible that the harm of this EO was intentional. Ouch.
Trump continues to surprise me. Just when I think he’s reached the end of his awfulness, he gets worse. I’ll be surprised if the US isn’t bankrupt, just like all of his “businesses”, by the end of his term. A bankrupt US is terrifying since everything is going to explode. I can’t imagine this happening. I can’t. My brain will not let me extrapolate out what a bankrupt country would mean. And there are no checks and balances on him anymore. Perhaps Susie might be able to guide him, but the rest? It’s a team of oligarchs with no knowledge of how a country should run. Their god is money and that’s what they’re in here for. They don’t give a damn about the country. Actually, the country could also turn into one of those horrifying places like some countries overseas. If that happens, we are lost. Let’s not do that.
*ahem* On a more positive note, the plaintiffs are all asking for, essentially, variations on a hold or temporary restraining order for the EO to be held for further constitutional review. We need to stop this in its tracks and *really* look at what he is doing, what this EO means, and what we can do to push back. Keep on “talking” to your reps, your friends, and your local Democratic Party group.
******And now, a very special message from our awesome boss:******
Friends, I am forced to self-promote and ask you for money. We had a bad year compared with 2023 and the end of the year has been catastrophic. Traffic died on November 5. We are a small blog and completely self-supporting by ad revenue, donations, and subscriptions. If you can afford a monthly subscription that would help us out. If you can make a small donation, likewise. Our only goal is to stay in business and give you the best content we can generate. You are the wind beneath our wings. Thank you. Susan you are aware of the atrocities the Germans committed? Not just systematically murdering 11 MILLION people in the death camps, throwing living children into the ovens when the gas ran out. Burning women and children ALIVE locked in buildings. Killing all the men and boys in villages, stripping the women and children, marching them to the trenches already full of naked dead and wounded women and children, and shooting them point blank. Trump and the American Nazi Party, a.k.a., the gop have already destroyed millions of families. And you are surprised? By the way don’t be dancing until the war is over. Anything done can be undone by this murderer and liar. Then who’s going to stop him? The American people? Not this pampered group of mindless consumers. THE LAW INSTALLED HIM. It is just a minor irritation on his way to full dictatorship. We’re living in a fool’s paradise. I’ll dance on the grave of this evil son of a bitch…I don’t see much to get giddy about until then.
Scott, I had to take some time to think about this before I could respond. I have shown movies of the Holocaust (one we had to split into 2 parts because it was, I believe, 10 hours total runtime), spoken with survivors, and made sure to read whatever I could because I don’t want to see this happen again – except it is, just at a lower level. I felt that whatever small wins we get are worth celebrating. I don’t think the war will ever be over and I’m scared of either Trump finding a way to stay in for another 4 years, or forever, as you noted dictatorship, or just as bad, another Republican president. They pray to their god and their god is money. It’s not being a person anymore, just money-hungry acolytes. Much as I hate to say it, seems like just over half of this country won’t be able to stop him. They put him there. They need to realize what they’ve done … we hope. I’m just trying to make it day-to-day and also speak to you and others about what I’m looking at. Again, I feel the small wins are worth celebrating, but the losses far outweigh them. The losses will continue to far outweigh them. That hurts. I’m not sure if one person here, me, can do anything or if there’s anything that CAN be done. So yea, had to think and wait to reply to your comment until I could answer it in a way worth reading. As always, thank you for reading my pieces, and for commenting. I hope I can dance on his grave with you!
As far the children who might be American citizens, border czar Homan said he has no problem deporting families together, so they stay together. You are absolutely right, the cruelty is the point.
And it’s twice as cruel for us because we can’t DO anything to stop it … at least not yet.
