Not too thrilled with this. Got the news that Democrats have reached a deal. This is worrisome. What happened to standing firm about the ACA credits? It feels like we caved. And it’s about *Democrats*, not Republicans. What the holy hell??!!! Seriously, all, the headline was about Democrats. Sure looks like we caved. From Axios via Raw Story:
Congressional Democrats have reached a deal to end the longest government shutdown in history, according to a new report. Multiple sources granted anonymity told Axios that the deal includes supporting a procedural motion to approve a series of short-term spending bills that fund the government through the end of the year. The deal also includes voting in December to extend the Affordable Care Act subsidies that Democrats have been fighting to preserve, according to the report. There is also a negotiation to reinstate all of the federal workers Trump laid off during the shutdown, the report adds.
We caved, yes, we did. What about subsidies *NOW*? It’s open enrollment! People are getting screwed on their healthcare *NOW*. What have you done, Senate Democrats??!! There’s nothing about the Republicans! Just us and an agreement that does the same thing it did when the government shut down. It screws people’s healthcare. What about the people who are going to *lose* their healthcare? What the FSCK is going on?
“Talks are fluid, and no deal is final until lawmakers have voted,” Axios reported. “But the discussions are progressing toward a deal that would end weeks of deadlock in the Senate.” A draft of the appropriations bill lawmakers are expected to pass was released on Sunday.
So I went to the article on Axios to get additional information because I was mad. Happy to say it wasn’t quite as bad as originally presented. Sometimes you just have to go to the source to find out what you’re missing. Still having a fit, though.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Friday that Democrats would vote to end the government shutdown in exchange for a one-year extension of expiring ACA tax credits, multiple sources told Axios. Why it matters: Democrats, emboldened by sweeping election victories this week, are adamant that Republicans must make concessions on health care before opening the government. But Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) rejected the offer, calling it a “non-starter.” “I think it’s an indication that they’re feeling the heat, and they know that their last proposal was unserious and unrealistic,” Thune told reporters. “I just don’t think that it gets anywhere close to what we need to do here.”
Feeling the heat, my arse. They *seem* to be holding the line on the ACA. Right now, it’s Republicans who are feeling the heat. Democrats offered a solution. Republicans said no. So publicly, a solution was offered. They are refusing it, likely because of the Big Ugly Bill, where Republicans *made* the cuts. They should just suck it up and agree. Well, Democrats will be stubborn, and I’m pleased to say I was wrong. Kinda wasted a good rant, though. We’ll see what happens. With this coming out publicly, the Republicans will look worse and worse the longer it goes. Don’t forget, Moses Mikey Johnson is being a dick, too. Sorry not sorry, kiddies. And thanks for letting me down, Raw Story.
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Thank you Mr Schumer and the ‘bipartisan centrists’
I don’t know what the hell is going on. As far as I understand, the deal being talked about now has nothing to do with Schumer or Jeffries. It’s a small bunch of so-called Senate “moderates” including Shaheen and Hassan, both of of NH, and King of ME. I hear it’s “tentative” – no vote has been taken. The offer by Schumer was, I was just reading this morning, a brilliant move because the Republicans rejected it, thereby digging themselves even deeper into the hole. Jeffreis vows to “fight on.” From what I gather, no irrevocable steps have been taken.
