When you dig around places that are a bit different from mainstream news, you will continue to find fun little stories that might have been overlooked otherwise. This is one of those. You should enjoy this because Trump gets blindsided and does not enjoy it. Funny how that works. His focus is so narrow that anything outside it clobbers him “upside the head”. From Raw Story:
Donald Trump made a comment on Sunday that numerous observers say showed the president’s intention to bribe a congressman. Trump this weekend lashed out at Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) after learning that the lawmaker – whom he had pardoned this week following bribery and conspiracy charges – still plans to run for re-election as a Democrat, decrying it as “such a lack of loyalty.” But in doing so, he raised a red flag for political analysts.
My, my, my. Trump made a mistake and didn’t think it through. He pardoned the guy expecting a favor in return, and It Did Not Work. Trump is an unhappy camper. There are no tears from us. He deserved to be called out, just like Trump should be called out for so many other things (see: J6 pardons). Trump hates admitting his mistakes. He’ll dance around the subject without actually admitting anything. We know his cabinet is crap, but he can’t fire anyone (as he should be) without making himself look really bad. He’d be better off to fire them and get someone decent in there.
Liberal political network MeidasTouch said, “Trump rages that Henry Cuellar didn’t pay him back for a pardon by switching parties, blasting Cuellar for a ‘lack of LOYALTY.’ In other words, Trump admits he was trying to use his pardon power to buy Republicans a House seat.” //// Columnist Molly Jong-Fast replied with, “I’m sorry, but this is a little incredible.” //// Professor and author Jack Pitney also weighed in: “So Trump’s pardon of Henry Cuellar for alleged bribery was itself an attempt at bribery.” //// Jong-Fast then said, “Often Trump‘s pardons are a Mobius strip of corruption.”
This is SO entertaining. Trump expected something he didn’t get. His life is about quid pro quo and looking good, and having an attractive “cabinet.” He’s failing on two of the three, especially making himself look good. People notice things. His physical decline, forgetting what he’s saying, mixing up things, all more noticeable day by day. That’s a big one, as an orange face and combover doesn’t do him one damn bit of good. His “cabinet” is imploding. They may look photogenic, but they can’t do their damn jobs. (I promise not to rant about Hegseth again.)
Reporter Yashar Ali said, “President Trump is angry that Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar, whom he just pardoned, has decided to run for reelection. A reminder that the president didn’t even give Speaker Johnson a heads-up before issuing the pardon, and that Republicans had a chance at picking up this seat had Cuellar continued to face federal charges.” House Dem staffer Aaron Fritschner said, “Trump publicly complaining that he pardoned someone because he expected a quid pro quo is like calling the police because you got cheated in a drug deal.”
This gets funnier and funnier, but also sadder and sadder. Trump is a moron who doesn’t think things through. And yes, he essentially tried to bribe a Congressman. Not only is this guy running again, but he’s doing so as a *Democrat*. That has to drive Trump bonkers, or rather, more bonkers. This is America. Welcome to hell.
Friends, I hate to bother you for money at Christmas time, but the reality is that 2025 has been the worst year we’ve had since we were a fledgling site back in 2018 — 2020. We’ve done everything we can, and we can’t fight the fact that half of the electorate is tuned out and depressed after the 2024 election went south.
The irony is that if you’re reading this at all, you’re not the population we’re trying to reach. We’re trying to get the people who used to come here religiously to return and engage with us. In the meantime, we have operating costs and overhead, like any business. If you’re able to help, we need it. If you have already contributed, thank you. Ursula
