Okay, yes, I post a fair amount about Governor Newsom. He is doing exactly what we’ve wished Democrats would be doing since the election, when the debacle happened, and they seem to have been wringing their hands and saying poor, poor us, we lost the election. And Gavin is doing exactly what we’ve needed to be done. He is taking action *now*. Sure, he may be looking ahead to 2028, but what he’s doing now is baiting Trump and showing the United States who Trump really is.

Yes, I’m expecting to get hammered about the Democrat sentences, but folks, really, what have they been doing since we lost the election? Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer *could have* gotten the Democrats in Congress up and going for the throat, but what have they done? Except for Senator Booker’s and Hakeem’s marathon speech, not a damn thing. From The Washington Post:

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has seized attention like no other Democrat in President Donald Trump’s second term as he works to position himself as a de facto head of the resistance in a leaderless party. Influencers on both the left and the right have discussed Newsom online more than any other potential 2028 presidential contender since Trump’s inauguration, according to a Washington Post analysis.

With all he has been doing to troll Trump. I definitely think he’s presidential material. But right now, he has been doing the most of anyone out there. Sure, they come out from his press office account. But I’m also certain he has to approve them first. Whether or not Gavin writes them is immaterial. And there are more people to contend for the prize. Governor Pritzker of Illinois has stood up to Trump on sending troops into Chicago. And Maryland Governor Moore has leaned into the fight over troops into Baltimore. It’s great to see other people standing up and saying “HELL no” to Trump. If others can follow their lead and stand up to him, we might have a chance at flipping Congress.

Many Democrats eager for direction are delighting in Newsom’s high-profile clashes and aggressive trolling of the president, though some in the party remain skeptical that a California liberal will be their best candidate in 2028. “Democrats are so desperate for leadership right now that they’ll take anything they can get,” said Alex Hoffman, a Democratic strategist and donor adviser. “Gavin is filling a void.” Newsom stood out over the summer to both Democrats and Republicans who are following the early 2028 buzz.

Democrats are desperate for leadership. That says a lot right there. Desperate. Yes, we are, because we’ve been let down by our people in Congress. Gavin has stepped up to the plate and is knocking them out of the park. Whether or not he intends to run for president is immaterial at this point. His actions *now* are relevant.  As long as he keeps trolling Trump, which is what we need at this point, no wishy washy Congresspeople attitudes. Gavin is a light in the darkness for our country, which is descending into hell. And that’s damn near terrifying.

Trump has also directed an unusual amount of attention at Newsom: He has used his name 41 times in social media posts and emails since his inauguration — more than the 33 times he has mentioned Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York), the 29 times he’s mentioned his former opponent, Kamala Harris, and the nine times he’s mentioned Pritzker. (The analysis does not include Trump’s use of nicknames: Many more Trump posts disparage Newsom as “Newscum.”) Mike Madrid, a Republican political consultant who helped found the anti-Trump Lincoln Project, said Newsom is the first Democrat he has seen try to fight Trump by echoing his tone and sucking up similar oxygen with constant pushback.

And, it’s about damn time *someone* did. I hope Governor Newsom shines as an example of what can be done. Having threats to primary someone is a Trump misdirect. It’s possible to flip Congress. We need to start work *now*, like Senator Ossoff is. Gavin is evidence we *can* fight against Trump. Let’s go, people!

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thanks. Ursula

  1. There’s Pritzker here in IL. He has been much more consistent in his Democratic values.

Newsom is flashy and doing well…now. But sidling up to Charlie Kirk? That’s a huge black spot for a primary.

  2. I firmly believe that Democratic congress-critters prefer to be in the minority.
They get paid the same and can fundraise their asses off to defeat the “evil Republicans”.
Plus, they can’t be blamed when things break for their donors rather than their constituents.
