A political scientist calls the developments in Lauren Boebert’s district, “stunning.” Democrats by the thousands have switched their affiliation in order to vote in the Republican primary and get rid of Lauren Boebert. How we wish them well. CPR News:
Thousands of voters have recently left the Democratic Party in Western Colorado — some as part of a grassroots effort to defeat Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert in her upcoming primary election.
Among them is Steven Hallenborg of Montrose.
“Well, I’m a lifelong Democrat, and now I’m unaffiliated,” he said. Because he changed his affiliation, he now can vote against Boebert in the June 28 Republican primary.
For the last few years, Colorado’s “open primary” system has allowed unaffiliated voters to participate in either party’s primary elections. That means voters like Hallenborg can weigh in on Boebert’s primary run — without actually joining the Republican Party.
“It’s very unfortunate what’s going on in this state. So, I mean, she has to go,” Hallenborg said in an interview at a Democratic event. Voters who oppose Boebert have one other option, Republican state Sen. Don Coram, in the June 28 primary.
In total, the Democratic Party’s voter rolls in the district shrunk by about 3,700 people, or about 2.7%, from February through May, according to an analysis by CPR News. At the same time, the district saw unusual growth in its unaffiliated voter population. One political scientist, Seth Masket, described the findings as “stunning.”
I find this development heartening in the extreme. Lauren Boebert is an extreme right wingnut. She doesn’t represent sane Republicans, she represents the worst of the worst fringe crazies of the GOP.
I don’t think she’ll survive and I say that knowing full well that she has outraised her opponent in campaign funds by a huge margin. That money is MAGA crazy money and I don’t think she’s all that popular in Colorado. She rode Trump’s coattails into office but staying there is something else. In the brief time she’s been there, she’s proven herself to be somebody who doesn’t handle campaign money ethically and that’s the tip of the iceberg.
She reimbursed herself for over 38,000 miles of travel when the circumference of the earth is only a little bit over 24,000. She’s a grifter and a liar and a cheat, just like her Mar-a-Lago mentor.
I think this report you’ve read here of the Dems switching affiliations is just an indication of the seismic wave that is going to roll over Boebert. I could be wrong. But we did see Madison Cawthorn go down in flames and I think lightning might strike twice. I don’t think Coloradans like looking like fools. It’s my native state, and while I left there in 1978, I think I can still read the temperament of the people to know that Boebert’s on her way out.
The image Coloradans want to project is Rocky Mountain high, a better way of life, not gun fetishist insanity. My personal opinion is that that is what is going to bring her crashing down. She’s not only an embarrassment, she’s a costly one to people trying to sell an image of Colorado that is dead opposite.
