The internet is a many splendored thing. You come across interesting baubles. Here is Madison Cawthorn enumerating his many virtues, but alas, Wisdom is not one of them. He also forgot Humility, but we’re let that one pass.
You’ll be glad to know that, like Luke Skywalker, Cawthorn has met his Obi Wan. Newt Gingrich will teach him Wisdom, the Ways of the Force, maybe even how to fix a martini. Isn’t that grand?
The only problem is, Newt says he doesn’t know anything about it.

Maybe mentorship is like love and the true course of it never runs smooth. I’m no defender of Gingrich, but if I had to pick one of them to believe, it would not be Cawthorn.
Two things here:
- Cawthorn is in trouble plenty and maybe that’s what he means by “lack of wisdom.” He screwed himself by planning to run in a new congressional district which now no longer exists. Ergo, he’s facing a primary in his own congressional district and he may lose. The guy is not popular. So again, I speculate that “wisdom” translates as “I don’t know WTF I’m doing and I need to find somebody smart to tell me. So I’ve chosen Newt.”
- Choosing Newt to call the shots is not exactly a terrific idea either. In the last election when the polls said that Georgia would flip blue and then again said that Perdue and Loeffler would lose, Gingrich said “the polls are wrong.” He cited his many years of living in Georgia and said all this was impossible. He lived to eat his words. Bad political predictions are like revenge, they’re a cold dish and a bitter one as well.
Now that said, if Cawthorn wants to seek wisdom from Gingrich, by all means. Please proceed. The phrase “the blind leading the blind” comes to mind. Maybe they’ll both walk of a cliff. If they do, the one missed will be Gingrich, which says all you’ll ever need to know about how despised Cawthorn is.
Newt should have stayed retired and obscure. He’d be far better off.
Newt pretty much is. He’s doing the usual, the articles for the think tanks. But this mentee thing is Cawthorn’s dream.

That idiot doesn’t belong in Congress. From Wikipedia: “[S]everal women accused him of sexually aggressive behavior, sexual misconduct, and sexual assault. Numerous former classmates support allegations that Cawthorn harassed women while in college.” Gee, what a nice guy. I wouldn’t want any of my three daughters and three granddaughters anywhere near him. Poor North Carolina!
