The Outlaws

I should have been here yesterday, but I wasn’t. I wasn’t because I couldn’t be. My country, the country that I love, and would die for, was under assault. And I couldn’t take my eyes off of the television screen. And it wasn’t under attack by Russians, Iranians, North Koreans, or any of the other countries out there that would like to take us down a notch.

It was under attack by an invading force summoned by, and dispensed by, the sitting President of the United States of America. This twisted individual, along with soulless sycophants like Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz, Marsh Blackburn, Matt Goetz, Jim Jordan, Rudy Giuliani, among others, set loose a pack pf hell hounds on the very building in which many of them were in residence at the moment.

The world changed yesterday. For at least a generation, we forfeited our right to be seen by the glove as that shining city on a hill that President Reagan spoke so eloquently about. How do we lecture budding democracies around the globe on the mechanics of a true democracy, when we had home grown, domestic terrorists taking over the capitol building? In the brash, intemperate actions of a petulant child, we forfeited our role as the global leader in the advancement of democracy.

But the political landscape changed here in America as well. Because yesterday, the differences between the parties was brought into stark, and brilliant relief. The sitting President of the United States had called on an armed mob that he, and he alone controlled, to swarm the Capitol Building of the United States, in order to make a political statement against a government that he himself controls. Which is a bridge too ar.

Look, let’s be honest here There are a shit load of Trump supporters out there, well north of 70 million of them in the last election. But regardless of their affection for him, for whatever reason, they are still American citizens, who believe firmly in our system of government. And what they saw yesterday, when the sitting President of the United States sent an armed insurgent force into the United States Capitol, to try to forestall the requisite steps of the peaceful transfer of power, revolted them. They may be Trump supporters, but they are still Americans, and they believe in our system of government. And this was totally unacceptable, even for anything but a rabid Trump supporter.

Donald Trump achieved his ultimate goal yesterday. He completed the process of reducing the once proud Republican party, the party of Lincoln, into the base and hateful party of Trump. But in doing so, he turned that once proud institution into nothing more than another outlaw motorcycle gang. Nobody will ever be able to look at them quite the same way again. Here endeth the lesson.

  1. I am far from DC, but I am curious about that there were no counter protesters. No one showed up to protest trumps rally. I know these groups monitor each others social media posts. Did something go out that to let pro democracy groups know not to show up. I saw one representative say that he told his staff to stay home. if all of this is known, why were capitol police not better prepared.

    • Even if this won was NOT spreading among counter protestors, the Trumpsters had been openly planning this on social media for many weeks. It should have been a non-brainer to be prepared. Trump has also told them to come to D.C. on January 20. I wonder what will happen with that now.

    • Word went out everywhere – don’t go. Saw it on FB, Twitter, etc. Capitol police were prepared. Traitor Capitol police let them in. The good ones tried to stop the chaos. That’s why one is dead. But they tried to turn it to Antifa. I’m Antifa. Propaganda galore all the time.

    • There were a lot of requests from law enforcement for counter protesters to stay away so there wouldn’t be any confrontations.

  2. I’ve had a more jaundiced view of America since at least the esrly 2000s, Murf. Grow up in eastern TN and get kicked around to the point where you start looking into why, it’s kind of inevitable. So the only thing that shocked me about Wednesday was the timing. Something like this was bound to happen but I always figured it’d be mid-decade minimum.

The blowback hasn’t been ANY kind of shock. Trump’s pattern is etched in titanium at this point. With his days rapidly coming to a close, all his worst tendencies just got magnified is all. And no one, not even the dopes who actually believe in American Apartheid, want to be in that blast radius.

    • It’s become impossible for tRump to hold it together at all any more. He has been in a downward spiral for a long time and.it has rapidly accelerated since the election.

  3. Until these traitors are in jail, the law will remain as a monument to white supremacy. Their incarceration will not change our entire history, but at least it will be a sign the glacier is inching in the right direction.

  4. I was interested in your take, but didn’t feel you were derelict in taking a day to consolidate your thoughts. In this era, perhaps we should all pause and think about things before writing about them on the internet, lol.

In regard to your conclusions…I agree. The GOP is something different after Jan 6 than it was before. It was an inflection moment where attitudes shifted, and one that will be discussed centuries from now as a defining moment of this era.

Now we each have a duty to ensure the inflection puts us on an upward trajectory, and not downward.

  5. I watched live,
I was horrified sounds lame but it’s the truth, I forced my self to watch fox coverage just like a lawyer looking for perjury and yes, they can dance,
Forget Rep, Dem endgame for political capital. How does the politic large react going somewhat foreward, or is that wishful thinking. Look for breaking news Monday morning.
