Sometimes I think infamous Nazi doctor Josef Mengele somehow mixed the DNA of Joseph Goebbels and Adolf Eichmann to clone the world’s most evil man. If you compare pictures of brand new Trump Chief of Staff Stephen Miller with either Goebbels or Eichmann there’s a resemblance with both of them. Whatever is where his heart is supposed to be is as evil and black as either of the Nazis who earned their places in the darkest chapters of world history. Miller, who has been the driving force behind both Trump administration’s ‘The Cruelty Is the Point’ immigration/deportation policy will no doubt join them in history’s accounting of the world’s most horrible, evil human beings. More to the point, Miller doesn’t care about the midterm results, he’s ordered ICE to keep up what they’ve been doing!
Bear in mind that pre-election polling along with exit polling revealed even MAGAs think the deportations are over-the-top. It’s starling how many were willing to admit on camera that they thought it would be going after ‘the worst of the worst’ only to learn the net goes way wider than that. They also say tactics, like calling people in for routine appointments to process asylum, greed card and citizenship applications is just flat-out wrong. Miller clearly doesn’t care what others, including MAGAs think. ANYONE is fair game as far as he’s concerned. Even, as we learn from this article from USA Today a Wisconsin State Trooper who along with his parents has been waiting seven years for their asylum hearing.
Van Der Merwe, who lived in New Mexico with his family, wanted to serve in the U.S. military, but could not because he was not a permanent resident, Christopher said. He graduated with a degree in criminal justice in New Mexico, then researched states where he could do similar work with his status and found Wisconsin.
Van Der Merwe was living in Onalaska and working in Tomah for the Wisconsin State Patrol over the past year. His work authorization is valid until 2030.
Carel Aaron Van Der Merwe is here legally, having been granted permission (along with his family) to remain in the U.S. after their initial status ran out in 2019. We don’t know why seven years have gone by without their asylum hearing taking place but all indications are they have lived productive lives here and followed all the rules. And, more important for Carel with a work permit to earn a living. He wanted to serve this country and found a way to do so. For chrissakes he’s even from a country that for whites at least Trump wants immigrants to come from. The dude is as whitebread looking as it gets:
The guy looks just as, if not more ‘American’ as Miller does! Even Trump, were he to see a picture of him ask Miller ‘Why the hell would you go after THIS guy? He looks exactly like the kind of foreigners we want!’ No matter. ICE arrested him at the airport after he visited family and was trying to fly back to his home in Wisconsin to serve the citizens there. Knowing right off the bat they’d stepped in you-know-what they issues a statement that Miller, he of “pure American blood” (a few of his Jewish ancestors escaped the Holocaust or Miller wouldn’t even exist!) probably wrote. It sure sounds like his handiwork:
ICE’s argument is that Van Der Merwe – as a teenager in the U.S. with his family – overstayed his visitor’s visa.
“He entered the country in March 2019 with legal permission to stay until September 2019. In defiance of our nation’s laws, he overstayed his admission,” a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said in a statement. “Work authorization or a pending application do not confer legal status in the U.S.”
Attorney Marc Christopher confirmed to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Carel Aaron Van Der Merwe, who was traveling to visit family with a valid work permit, had been released from the Dodge County Jail and was awaiting a ride from his supervisor, the head trooper in Tomah.
Christopher said Van Der Merwe was released under an order of supervision, which requires him to periodically check in with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He will also likely be subject to electronic monitoring, potentially through an application on his cellphone rather than an ankle bracelet.
Christopher said he plans to speak with Van Der Merwe to discuss the next steps in his case. He expects Van Der Merwe will eventually share his experience publicly but wants to give him time to readjust following his release.
“I just told him I wanted him to get back, get reacclimated, just get settled, because I know he’s gone through a very dramatic experience,” Christopher said.
Don’t think for a second Miller will allow ICE to back down and let this quietly go away. Nor will Trump intervene. He just promoted Miller to Chief of Staff and it would be embarrassing to slap Miller down. Even more so given that a week earlier he’d ordered the aiding and abetting of the crime of facilitating an “illegal immigrant” getting into the U.S. The irony that Van Der Merwe who came here at age 14, and has spent seven freaking years since the family’s initial authorization expired waiting for an asylum hearing will see Bolsonaro get a hearing (with a pre-determined favorable outcome) before HE does.
Prior to the midterms people across the political spectrum looked at Trump’s antics and asked whether he was actually trying to cause his Party to lose the midterms. If this is any indication, it won’t be long before the same question is being asked about 2028. Trump never wanted to do the actual work a President is expected to do. Susie Wiles was unsuccessful in trying to rein Trump in and eventually almost gave up. Miller on the other hand will gladly handle the day-to-day things a President is supposed to do and this is a good indication of how he will proceed to be the acting President.
