Yes, this is fluff. Yes, this is also serious. No, this is not something any one of us wanted to know. But it is true, or seems to be. Lots of people have tattoos, after all. But the only person further away from a tattoo than Mike Johnson is Trump. Why? Thanks to Raw Story:

House Speaker Mike Johnson floated the idea of getting a tattoo Sunday in honor of President Donald Trump and his agenda, telling Fox News exactly what it would say and where he would get it. Speaking with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo, Johnson was asked about Trump’s controversial voter ID bill known as the SAVE Act, which Trump has furiously insisted Republicans instead refer to as theSAVE America Act,” despite the bill officially being called the “SAVE Act.”

We already know this isn’t going in a good direction. The damn SAVE Act needs to be shredded into tiny pieces that can never be glued back together again. Wretched thing. Restriction is not saving, at least in this example. But pardon the diversion. We were discussing tattoos.

The president and I laughed about it in the Oval [Office] last week,” Johnson said. “I told him, ‘You know, Mr. President, I don’t have any tattoos, but if I did, it’d saySave Americaon my shoulder,’ okay? We passed it three times in the House already; we’re going to pass it again!” As Johnson noted that the tattoo would be on his shoulder, he oddly pointed to his chest.

Maybe he meant on the back of his shoulder? Someone should point out to him that it will be horrible having to get that thing removed when he retires. Actually, someone should just point out that it would be a very, very BAD idea. As best we can tell, and may it stay this way, that damn Act isn’t going to pass ever. Congress knows the optics on it suck. Trump, well, he’s stuck on repeat. Someone needs to change that record.

Last week, Trump vowed to block the passage of an affordable housing bill Congress passed on a bipartisan basis until the SAVE Act was delivered to his desk for final approval. Described by some critics as a form of “voter suppression,” The SAVE Act would require voters to provide proof of citizenship to register to vote, something experts say could pose hurdles for the 52% of voters who don’t possess a passport and the 11% who don’t have access to their birth certificate. The bill would also disproportionately affect voters with lower incomes, who make up a significant share of Democratic Party voters.

I know we’ve all seen that last paragraph above before, but it needs to be remembered. There could very well be people who do want to vote and don’t have access to the ID that Trump wants to throw up there. Voting is something *everyone* deserves. And everyone deserves to be counted. So Mike Johnson might want to rethink that tattoo.

See you tomorrow!

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
