From the temper tantrum of the SAVE Act to the nasty habit of this piece, Trump is getting himself more into the news than anyone we can have fun with, for now. There is something about him that we didn’t need to know. Why did this make it into the news? Surely people weren’t that desperate. Well, whatever the reason, here we are. My compliments to Raw Story:

President Donald Trump has adorned the Oval Office with gold trophies, vases, trimming and other ornaments, and the authors of a new book revealed what his aides said was behind his bedazzling spree. The 80-year-old president has leaned hard into his former career as a real estate developer and hotelier to apply what he describes himself as “Trump touches” to the room’s decor, and CNN’s John Berman asked New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan what they learned about the White House redecoration while researching their new book, “Regime Change.”

We have seen all the ridiculous gold, but there’s more? The hint was provided in the intro, and yes, there’s more. But first, “Trump Touches”? Trump is not King Midas, much as he would like to be. But all this gold “stuff” comes from his “real estate and hotel background” (heh), is a touch? He’s touched, but that isn’t what he meant. The man can spray paint and gilt everything he wants, but he’s the only one who likes it. Trump Touches. Ick. He makes it look like the set of something else, and we will just leave that one right there.

Quick lightning round of things that I found fascinating just in passing,” Berman said. “Number one, and the guys all moaned when I mentioned it beforeHe likes carpeting in his bathrooms?” Haberman confirmed that it was true, and she said restoring bathroom carpeting to the White House was a top priority when he returned to the office last year. “Yes, this was a continuous thing in Term One, and everybody had to restore everything to how it was in Term One –remember Term One,” she said. Haberman then returned to Berman’s question about the bathroom carpeting, which many designers and homeowners regard as unattractive and a potential health hazard despite the trend’s popularity decades ago.

(Wait for it.) Now, this doesn’t seem to have been mentioned much previously, restoring things to circa Term One. That’s an interesting little bit to find out. The Oval Office seems to have been a lot less tawdry. Sure, every president makes modifications to suit their own taste, but Trump takes it to extremes. We could guess that he had them get him a new chair for behind the desk. How well is it holding up under all that weight? And how bad are the modifications in the office or elsewhere that we can’t see? We do know pictures were moved around.

One of the restorations was this wall-to-wall carpet that he likes in the bathroom, and instead of a bath mat, there was always a little piece of carpet near the shower,” Haberman said, “and there were concerns about mold and health. So in Term One it would often, there were a few of them – anyway, whatever, you get the point.” Berman said he’d heard enough, and he said that detail stood out to his colleagues as particularly revolting. “Yeah, it’s incredible,” Berman said.

I couldn’t “un”-read it, and sharing is caring. Now you know. Bleach and a wire brush for your brain are available on request. But seriously, carpet in the whole bathroom? That’s just wrong. I have never been in a place where there is carpet in the bathroom. A mat, yes, full, no. Outside of the nastiness, it goes to show that Trump has no taste, no matter if he thinks he does. The Oval Office is drowning in gold. The bathrooms are carpeted. This is where less is more should apply, not more is more. The man has no class.

See you soon!

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
