They’re still going on. They have been flying under the radar for a while due to the debacle of the Iran War. But we’re still wasting Navy and Air Force resources bombing boats that have absolutely no defense against them. There have been reports from people on land that they have been fishing. It’s also not as if they can get anywhere across the sea in the boats they are using. But no, Petey Boy (remember him?) says they are “narcoterrorists”. Hooey. Something is going to come out of this that certain people aren’t going to like. Respect for Raw Story:
A former senior Trump administration official issued President Donald Trump and those around him an ominous warning on Monday about what they said were “historic consequences” they’ve yet to face, but undoubtedly will – and soon. That former official was Miles Taylor, a security expert who served as a Homeland Security senior advisor in the first Trump administration, and his warning was about the Trump administration’s ongoing operation in the Caribbean targeting suspected drug traffickers, an operation that critics have called illegal and, as of Monday, has killed 205 people.
Pardon my personality sneaking through. This has been bugging me since the first day they started the bombings. From all the pictures we’ve seen, these people did not have enough gas to get anywhere except back home. Second of all, the boats are kinda slow, considering. Third, they had no apparent weapons. Fourth, they should have been arrested, not bombed. And fifth, why exactly *are* we bombing them? Venezuela is known for cocaine, not fentanyl.
“More than 200 people have now been killed in Trump’s campaign against ‘drug boats’ since it began in early September,” Taylor wrote in an analysis published on his Substack on Monday. “I can tell you from firsthand experience that all of them could have been arrested instead. In other words, the murders are a choice – and one that will have historic consequences.”
Murders. A harsh yet applicable word. That’s what these are. They are a choice. They weren’t necessary. There is no contest between the boats and a military strike. There isn’t. So, was this Hegseth’s idea? Because it sounds like something he would come up with after the snatch and grab of Maduro and his wife. We aren’t terrorizing the country. We’re only doing so to the men trying to feed themselves or their families, the ones who hope we don’t notice them.
And, while the Trump administration has yet to face any legal consequences for what even Republican lawmakers have described as “extrajudicial killings,” Taylor warned that consequences were, in fact, coming, and soon enough that “the people who carried this out should be calling their lawyers.” “First, Democrats are very likely to retake at least one chamber of Congress. The day they do, they get subpoena power, and the first thing a serious oversight committee will do is start pulling the thread on the obvious crimes committed by the Trump administration. This boat-strike campaign is top of the list,” Taylor wrote.
It certainly is. The question is, will it be first? Or will it be bumped down the line for something else? There are quite a few things that need to be done. Democrats are already likely to be working on a list, one that will be quietly circulated to all the people who are remaining in Congress. We want to be ready in no less than a week after new members are sworn in. Then the actions will begin. How big will the list be – what do you think? It could while away the time here and there. We will still be working very hard on campaigning because it isn’t over til it’s over. [EDIT: some of the boats appear to be bigger than I thought they were, but the sentiment is still the same.]
