Folks should be thinking about the midterms. It seems that some of them, Republicans, or, hate to say it, Democrats, need to think about what’s coming. The Republican Party, a. k. a. The GOP, which is substantially easier to type, is headed for a bloodbath, and half of them are refusing to see it. Talarico is leading in deep red Texas. A Democrat is leading in the polls in Texas. *That* should make them think about midterms because that shouldn’t happen. But then again, Texas voters chose Paxton, and he is a walking, talking debacle. Democrats are planning what happens after they flip the House and possibly the Senate. It would be awesome if we could flip the Senate. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. We should be talking about those subpoenas. Respect to Raw Story:

GOP strategist David Urban, who in 2016 served as President Donald Trump’s senior campaign adviser, issued his former boss a harsh warning on Sunday, cautioning the president that he may soon face a wave of congressional subpoenas if he doesn’t dramatically shift course ahead of the midterm elections. Appearing on CNN, Urban was responding to Trump’s remarks last week where he told reporters that he didn’tcare about the midterms” as it relates to his deeply unpopular war against Iran.

Hoooo boy. As if Trump ever listens. That’s rare. If he truly doesn’t care about the midterms, Republicans need to wake up and smell the coffee. On the other hand, more of them seem to be breaking away from Trump, because all he will do is drag them down, down, down. He already is, with the state of everything in America. We didn’t want a war, and we still don’t. That doesn’t particularly matter to him. He only cares about himself  (ad nauseam).

“People are putting their hand in their pocket and pulling out a $20, they’ve got to pump their gas, get their kids a pizza – makes things much, much more difficult,” Urban said. “And so the president may care a great deal [about the midterms] when he comes back in January of next year because they’re going to get nothing but subpoenas and subpoenas and subpoenas if the House does flip.”

Hmmmm maybe. There are still 6 months to go. It looks like we will flip the House, it looks like we *might* flip the Senate (please no Paxton). There’s a lot of time that needs to be put into campaigning and fundraising. There are also hopes and prayers, but they aren’t concrete like the other two things just listed. We are helping our senator to hopefully hold onto his seat. Even writing opinion pieces as we do here at Pz is something.

“Now, toward the midterms, they have to pass a bunch of legislation. Part of that is the president’s ballroom, they’re looking for funding there, part of it is this compensation fund being all held up in the Senate,” Urban said. “I don’t think that gets through, I don’t think the House [or] Senate votes are there, Republicans are going to exact a pound of flesh on that. And then moving forward, going to the midterms, it’s very difficult. Republicans are structurally pushing a big rock up a hill because the party in power, traditionally, loses seats.”

Hopefully, that tradition will continue. Republicans can’t or won’t rein in Trump. They are also going to have trouble facing their constituents with all that’s going wrong in the country. A few brave Republicans have done Town Halls, and they had their hair blown back, even if they have none. Scorched. Crispy crittered (no, not like RFK Jr). The next question is, did anyone pay attention? We don’t know if anyone in Congress did. Yet there are those of us who did notice. We are aware, and we are concentrating, and we are absorbed with what is going on in this country. We’re not going to count on ‘tradition’.

See you soon!

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
