Well, okay then! This was so entertaining (a little bit) and so stunning, it was something to share. He’s done some things that have come into play. We want to know why he’s bringing it into places it ought not be. And his religion is *really* creepy, and *really* angering. Women shouldn’t vote? Oh, hail no! Plus, going from a battle with another senator, he’s anti-Semitic, and she called him out on it in a different article. Now back to your regularly scheduled column. My compliments to Raw Story:

On Thursday afternoon, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth bristled and snapped at a Democratic senator who pressed him about his continual invocations of Christianity as part of his briefings and what it says about how he is running the Pentagon.

That led the former Fox News personality to accuse Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) of questioning his faith and of attacking his religious beliefs, at which point Hegseth became exceedingly combative and accused the lawmaker of having an ulterior motive in his questioning.

There’s this thing called separation of church and state, Petey Boy. Those two things are not to mix. Everyone is entitled to a faith they choose. But bringing it into briefings and using it in the Pentagon? That’s a bit much, and it feels like it’s almost illegal, although the legality is not in question. It just feels like it. Reminds me of witch hunts. But Hegseth should not force his religion on the people of the Pentagon. That’s nonsense.

Addressing Hegseth’s ongoing purge of Pentagon officials, Reed noted, “I think that direction from your behavior is an intense interest in Christianity, in nationalism, and in not recognizing the talents of women and non-white gentlemen. And that’s the wrong direction.”

“I don’t know what you’re insinuating, senator, but I am not ashamed of my faith in Jesus Christ,” the Pentagon chief fired back.

“Well, you shouldn’t be ashamed,” Reed protested as Hegseth followed up with, “If you want to shame me for it, go ahead.”

Hmmm. Methinks the man doth protest too much (yes, I am mangling Shakespeare again). Why *is* he so defensive? His religion is flat-out weird. I’ve heard enough about it to make that statement. Women shouldn’t vote. Women shouldn’t work outside the home. I know this means I’m judging his religion, but geez! Anyhow, moving along…

“I’m not shaming you, but are you critical of other faiths?” the senator pressed.

“I am a believer; I’m quite open in that,” Hegseth replied.

“And our department allows for a multitude of faiths.

So, I don’t know what you’re suggesting.

I’ve heard the likes of things that people like you suggest to try to smear my character, and I won’t give in to it.”

Yes indeed, hello, Mr. Defensive! Notice he didn’t answer the question. That leads to guessing that he *is* critical of other faiths. Now, I’m not trying to get into a religious discussion (or argument). I’m trying to show something else about Hegseth. There is a separation of church and state that he’s ignoring. I *detest* his religion and would not put up with it. That’s what I’m trying to show. I hope you’ll understand.

See you soon!

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. it’s going to be a mess when hegseth leaves. every single officer is going to have to be looked at to determine their motivations and loyalties. training and indoctrination of enlisted personnel as well. are they there to uphold the constitution and defend the country or to overthrow it and install something else.
